: IPOD help, again
Daren71 Jul 12th, 09, 7:29 PM Hi, we are having problems with my daughters' ipod again. When itunes is open, it does not recognize the ipod. Its fully charged, and the latest itunes is installed. When the ipod is turned on, it says no music, but when you check the memory status, it says 6.2g remaining (of 8.0 total) So there is something there, but no music available. The laptop that the ipod is connected to recognizes it as a hard drive, in "my computer".
When the ipod is turned on, its almost like it thinks its brand new. The date is wrong, by 9 years, and it wants you to set the default language.
Going thru the ipod help feature, the 5 R's, I can't even do a system restore on the ipod.
Any help would be greatly appreiciated. Thanks, Daren
jonh Jul 13th, 09, 2:15 AM Why can you not, reset the ipod? Do you get a message? I have a feeling by what you have said the music is there.

Daren71 Jul 13th, 09, 9:28 AM Hi Jon, for this type of ipod, gen 3 nano, for a reset it says press menu and the select button, and the apple logo will appear, which it does. Then after the logo appears, you are supposed to press the select button, and the play/pause button. When we do this, the ipod just goes back to the initial screen at start-up.
Is this where its supposed to go?
The ipod doesn't qualify for warranty work, and the closest apple store is about 45 minutes away, so I'd like to try to fix it myself. Daren
jonh Jul 13th, 09, 12:58 PM You did not mention sliding the hold button to lock as your first step. then an orange light should come on then unlock it and proceed.
gluck,
jon

Hi, yeah I have used the unlock button. Didn't make any difference. What drives me nuts about this, mine is older than hers, maybe less abuse, but it still works perfectly. My daughters is just a year old, and we've had several issues with it. Battery life seems alot less as well. Thanks again. Daren
jonh Jul 13th, 09, 4:13 PM Try syncing you ipod to your laptop?
Do you see the bright orange color when you slide the Hold button to lock? (you do not slide it back to unlock until you do) and continue the reset. Options below
hold down Menu and Select button until Apple logo appears on the screen then release.
Press and hold play/pause and Menu button.
Press and hold play/pause and center Select button.
With the ipod connected to itunes on your laptop make sure you disconnect at the icon on the bottom of the screen.
Was this ipod initially set up on this laptop?

Hi Jon, sorry for the delay, life ya know. With regards to the reset, ya I see the orange button, (and I also see the lock symbol on the ipod).
I see no disconnect icon when we are in itunes. I can't sync the ipod, when it use the drop down File, then I can see sync ipod, but its greyed out, meaning not available. The ipod has been used with this laptop only, no other. The ipod still shows as a hard drive in My computer.
The other weird thing is when its plugged into the laptop, the screen that's showing now is saying connected, eject before disconnecting. No charging screen. Thanks again, Daren
jonh Jul 15th, 09, 2:47 AM Have you tried all the resets? The ipod should show as a drive. Boot the computer and then plug in the ipod and see if it brings up itunes. If not, try another cable.
Keep going,
Jon

Hi Jon, tried all of the above again, including another known working cable. It still doesn't show up in itunes. I've gone through about half of what is recommended from apple, and still no help.
After talking with my daughter, she said the reset is working, meaning when she has reset it, its doing the same thing now.
I'm close to where the help says uninstall itunes, but not there yet, I've run out of time again. Thanks, Daren
