I have a Toshiba Laptop, Satellite M45-S359. Since I got it, from a friend, it occasionally goes to one of 3 screens, 1)all white Screen, or an 2)all green screen, or 3)all blue screen.

The white and blue are most common. When it happens, the laptop has always been sitting stationary, and the screen has been opened, in the "up" position, for some time.

It must be shut down and rebooted to do anything.

Some suggest, the cable between the laptop and the screen is going bad.

Ideas what can be done to fix this?

plug a crt or lcd monitor into it and see if the problem repeats itself without using the laptops display. If the problem occurs with the desktop monitor then it most likely has nothing to do with the display itself, but could be a video card related issue. I believe that you can get usb video cards these days that you could essentially bypass the entire video card on the laptop

I would think that if you don't have to do any mechanical movement to get it to correct itself, then it is probably not a mechanical issue, like the cable going bad. Is the driver up to date? Have your tried turning of any power saving stuff; i.e. the monitor is not set to turn off after an hour?

Yes, I tried bypassing all the screen savers and Etc first. No luck. But I haven't tried the alternate screen idea.
