Hey Guys... was wondering if you could help me determine if the master cylinder in my 71 is original. The part # is 5452310 and on the other side I see two sets of numbers that look like 079 and 261. Not sure what those mean. Any help?

Thanks

Pat

Thanks Bob... Just out of curiosity how do those 079 and 261 numbers decode? Does the 261 mean Feb 6th 71?

Pat, we have oem part numbers on a lot of parts which we use to interchange to our brands when it comes to casting numbers it gets tricky it could be factory or run numbers.on this one i would say 079 is plant 261 could be date of manufacture.if you need any help on gm #s and it is in our files i would be glad to help out. Thanks Bob... I stripped down the master cylinder today and it looks more like that 079 is actually D79... and the second set is 251. The reason I wanted to know was because if the MC wasn't original I really didn't want to go through stripping and refinishing it. Since it does appear to be I'd like to keep the original parts. The lid is in bad shape (pitted) so I probably need to find a replacement. Thanks again.
