I want to road trip tonight over to Indy to the SCS but am worried about the rain??

I went to a Car Craft S. Nat's show in DuQuoin, IL years ago and it rained 6" or MORE that Sat. afternoon. Low parked cars had water in their floorboard sumps!

Should I make the trip or not??

Or should I just go up to the big Rutledge, MO flea market instead tomorrow??

I remember that!! A guy with a back halfed 68 Camaro actually threw me a tow strap and pulled my stranded 64 Impala SS out of the water!

It's fine here tonight but 60% chance of showers tomorrow. 20% chance Sunday. My car's out at ORP now. I'll go do my anti-rain dance tomorrow.

I got there at like 3:30AM this morning driving like the old man I've become.

Pulled in on the west side where two guys take parking money and woke up like at 9:30 raining!

I went and got some breakfast, came back, heard the thunder and ended up staying just long enough to buy a "T" Shirt and I left.

I messed up and hit 136 West instead of 36 West and when I hit Crawfordsville,(Sp?), I drove through a short 16" deep street crossing, it rained that hard!

In fact, I stopped for better than 15 minutes before I took off west again AND no help at all!

Something about a "cow pissin* on a flat rock" come's to mind from when I was on the farm as a kid.

I figure SCS Indy this year was a bust AND I really hope not.

Gotta line out Joliet..............

You shoulda stayed another day. Saturday was a wash out but today (Sunday) looks to be nice with plenty of sun and high temp in the low 80's. After it rained the first time yest I didn't even get my car dried off all the way before it rained again. After another unsucessful attempt I gave up. Many dried their cars 5 or 6 times only to have it rain again. They finally pulled the plug on Saturday's activities about 1pm.

I agree! We drove up Sat. morning, about the time we hit Indy it started to rain. By the time we got to ORP it was pouring. The rain let up for a short peorid of time, and we had just drove almost 2 hrs to get there so we paid our $10 to park and $22 each to get in and about a half hour later it starts pouring again. We braved the storm to make a quick pass through the swap meet (which was a pretty sad excuse for one I must say) and decided to just go ahead and leave. Of the maybe 50 cars that were out, half were covered up and no drag racing to watch so why stay. It was a huge waste of time and money! Hopefully the one coming up in Bowling Green, Ky. will be much better.

I hate to say it but you're right. I can't understand the downward spiral the last few years. Someone counted 107 show cars total on Sunday (beautiful weather that day). There were 19 Chevelles total. Smallest swap meet ever. Some attribute it to the poplularity of the Goodguys shows, some to the economy and gas prices, some to the effect of ebay on the swap meet, some to mismanagement of the show, etc. I can't put my finger on just one thing to cause it but but seems like the lesser attendance each year is like a snowball in reverse, and of course the prices don't go down. For those that care about such they couldn't even fill an 8 car field of "Nitro Coupes" (joke) which only raced 1/8 mile, only one jet car, and the one wheelstander were all the exhibition drag cars they had. No more Chicago Outlaw Super Stocks, no 409 Impala racers. No Chevrolet display. AND only one porta-jon for the entire car show area. Fewer vendors. Being on the same weekend as Goodguys Columbus has to have some effect but last year it wasn't and it was just as pitiful. I could offer some suggestions to the Autostar people but they won't even answer emails, so I don't think they listen real well to their customers. I think the only thing that will turn it around is for a different producer to take over.

all good points. Goodguy's being on the same weekend has always been an issue but not the main one. IMO it's management and IRP. We've had several conversations with AS over the years, they don't listen. And your right they don't answer emails or return phone calls. It' pretty bad when your even in the same area code. You can look back 5 years ago when some of the major vendors stated pulling out. The writing was on the wall then. And IRP, the crap you have to go through to get in the gate is ridiculous.

Friday we waited 2 hours before we got in...it was 10:00am!

Von, I saw you coming in as we were headed out, about 1:30. As far as chevelles at that time there was 2 or 3. A black 67 and a red 70. Happy b-lated too BTW. Mine was Friday also!

Sounds like the Florida shows a few years ago before they finally threw in the towel. I think the Super Chevy Series has run its course.

When Goodguys comes back to Florida I am going to check them out. Looking at their website their prices are more reasonable (kids get in free) at it seems to be more of a fun show than what SCS has become.

It seemed like it began about 5 years ago when they cut back on everything like smaller tent, less staff, less advertising, etc. I'm guessing prices went up at the same time for vendors. Rumor was that Roger Gustin's wife (or ex-wife) took over management of SCS and ordered the cuts. I attended Good Guys at Indy and wasn't all that impressed. Lots of cars but lesser quality on average. It was more like just a big cruise-in with some racing. I thought Super Chevy Indy back in its heyday was much more fun.

Stephanie,

This is why I left this years Indy SCS w/ just a "T" Shirt and I'm cool w/ it traveling 360+ miles one way.

It rained like a cow pissing on a flat rock and I'm cool!!

I stopped by my GP and GM grave site's just north of Newman, IL so it was a GOOD road trip by me.

all in all, I'm glad I went, cause No. 1, I know I won't be going back, and No. 2, I scored a Matco rolling tool cart with drawer for $40!

Sounds like I didn't miss much. I hit Goodguys this year, and was content with that. I remember Super Chevy being THE show to hit. I went back in '97 and it was huge.

Stephanie,

Back again, I parked at the parking lot under the big tree at the gate to the Swap Meet on the west road if later it help's you out.

The guy's taking parking tickets let me sleep and I didn't pay a dime to park or go in and buy my "T"-Shirt.
