I decided to drive the velle to work today. I took a few co workers out to lunch and on the way back my z bar bracket broke. I got stuck in first gear in stop and go traffic. Not very fun at all. Now I have to try and drive it home. It's going to be a long drive.

Maybe think about driving over to a shop and have it welded up. Then you could get it home and tear it down a do a perm. fix.

I just got a Z-bar from NPD for my 65. Really nice piece, much heavier than the one that was on the car and failing, ( weld was breaking )

The problem is I work in an "upscale area". Most people look at me funny driving an old car. I doubt there is a decent shop anywhere near for me to stop at. I have to drive about 40 minutes on the highway to get home.
On the plus side I wish I had a picture of the girls face that was in the passenger seat when she realized there was a problem.

This may be questionable advice.....but have you tried matching RPMs to shift the trans or speed shifting?:D If you get good at RPM matching, you can get it home.

I did manage to slap it into 3rd gear and drive it home without to many issues. Of coursae once I had to stop again I could onyl find 1st.

I broke my Z-bar long ago and welded it up, then went to the local Home Depot and picked up a piece of .250x1" strap, which I wrapped around each leg in a U shape as reinforcement and triangles in the corners. Hasn't broken in at least 18 years now.
