As you can see by the two I have scanned, the font is different:confused:. I'm in possession of both, just want to install the right one. Looking forward to learning something here!

Dan,
Here's a picture of my original on a 34K mile 70SS.

That looks to be the top one, then. I got the stickers form 2 different vendors, forgetting I had one and ordering a 2nd:clonk:.

FWIW, the bottom one is a GM Restoration Part, not that it means it's going to be correct, but worth mentioning.

The top one is correct Dan...the bottom repro doesn't have the date like the original

There should be a date on it, so the top picture would be more correct. A little time on a computer and you can make your own.

You'd think the manufacturer could spend a little more time on the computer themselves and get it right...

How many times have I screamed the same words!! Maybe someone on this site who's more computor adept than myself would spit out a few and sell them.:D

I might take a whack at this and add the item to the other decals I make. The keys would be the proper font style and spacing to make sure the lines all end in the same spot.

Dan - can you tell me the exact outside measurements of the correct one? Also, what are the exact measurements from the two sides, and top and bottom, from the outside edge to where the printing starts? Understand pal?

OK, here goes:

Overall Size: 6 3/8" W x 4 3/4" H

From the Right, Left & Bottom edges, the printing is 3/8" indented.

On the top edge, the word " CAUTION " is 3/16" from the top edge.

The word " CAUTION " font is 3/8" high.

The description ( This vehicle equipped... ) font is 3/16" high.

The small writing at the bottom with the date, part number and " Printed in USA " is 1/8" high.

I think that's it!:D

Isn't this how things get confusing, shouldn't that orig. get copied on a quality copier without reduction and the copy mailed to the person doing the recreation. Just a thought.;)

Hey Dan, is the decal the last thing for completion July 09? You got the correct "jacking instruct" decal?

Oh, a wise guy, I see!:D:p

The car is getting a cut/polish as we speak, then I just need a fender adjustment on the passenger side, followed by the install of the side stripe.

Outside of sealing up a few leaks, yes, the car will be " done ".

While they are at it, they should make the correct 71-72 Cowl Induction air cleaner label, the "keep your GM car all GM" one. They are different....

Good job Dan, I should be able to work with that. Maybe two other measurements if you could:
- space between "Caution" and "main wording".
- space between "main wording" and "bottom line printing".

also,FWIW..the original was actually glued on,it wasn't a sticker ;)
Good to know Chris. If I'm successful it can be printed on regular or peel off backing paper.

Don - The space between the word Caution and the main wording:

5/16"

The space between the main wording and bottom line printing:

9/32"

I've also corrected one of my measurements!! Please refer to Post #9. Sorry for the mistake....:o

As far as the decal being glued on, I learned that as well many years ago. Roger Gibson was featured in an article and mentioned that he would buy the repop, get a quality laser copy made, cut it out and glue it on, like the factory did. He liked to do his best to keep people guessing if his cars were restored or not. He stated that the one area he couldn't fool people with was the paint jobs, as his were always much nicer than the factory.

Thanks a lot Dan   :)

I spent two hours on this earlier this evening and figure I have it about 25% licked. Hopefully by the end of the weekend I could have something. The main stumbling block has been the spacing - between lines and between letters - gotta use some weird spacing "points" in several areas (if you know what I mean).

Haven't got to the colour yet. I know over the years I've seen some more Red while others appear to be a little more Burgundy. However, the colour would be the easiest part to change. Stay tuned.

I took a bunch of close-ups of the sticker with a ruler alongside the critical areas.
The width is 6 3/8"+, and the height is 4 7/8"+
Here are 2 pics that are resized down, but I'll send the full batch to your e-mail address Don.

Pictures received Rick, thanks very much. With the high resolution ones you sent I can clearly see the font style on the small printing at the bottom which I might not have been able to decipher from the earlier pic posted by Dan.

STUMBLING BLOCK - and it's all Rick's fault  :D

I was going along just fine with the new measurements Rick sent me for the original and the font style from the Repo as per Dan's picture. However, the original font is totally different and I unfortunately can't match it. Most of the letters were close, but that darn "Q" is what brought it all to light. The first picture is from the original and the second is the repo.

You'll have to use the "O" Don and some creative artwork to make a leg for the "Q"..C'mon Don you can do it!! :D

Well, I've fiddled with this a little more and have hit another road block. Unable to match the font of the small printing at the bottom

If you can't make it exact to Rick's original then there's not much sense in doing it as it wouldn't be any better than the repos available.

Time to slide over to "Bug Hunt" to get some font input and suggestions.

Well, the fonts needed for this are not available anywhere for free download. Copyright issues come into play here. The cheapest I found was $25 for one and $249 for the other. Certainly not worthwhile just to make one or two decals. I'm wondering if there is a widespread market for such a correct decal?

The two font styles used on both of the current repos are not correct compared to Rick's original.

Rick, can you send me your phone number? Thanks.

My February built '70 SS did not have any Posi-sticker on the inside trunk lid (yes, I checked, it is a Posi), and it has the early (April ?) 1969 jacking instructions sticker. The rear did not come with that tag that is bolted to the center section either. Assembled in Baltimore, MD, USA.
