I have a disc break setup that I got from a friend in the garage. Its ready to go. I still need to get a proportioning valve, a master cyliner, and spindles. What spindles are interchangable with my 68 El Camino? I'm also looking into getting drop spindles. Does anybody here have any experience with those? Any recommendations? Whatever you guys have is appreciated. Thanks.

Master cylinder is readily available at any parts store. For proportioning valve many people use an adjutable from Jegs or Summit or a GM replacement from one of the Brake suppliers.

For the spindles you can have your drum spindles machined to work. Approx .610 inches needs to come off the top mount boss. This picture shows it:

Drum spindle is on right, disc on left. And you can find more detailed info here: http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/David_Pozzi/brakes.htm Or do a search of this forum for lots of useful info.

Some of the drop pindles available use later model calipers and rotors. On these your early stuff won't work. Make sure that you know what you are getting before buying the dropped spindles.

Hey Rick are'nt the steering arms different for a disc setup versus drum?

Not that I'm aware of  Its been 10 years since I did the swap and am reasonably sure that I used my original steering arms. Power steerin arms MAY be different than non-power
