I have a set of 69 tail light extentions with some crummy paint on them. I'd like to take them down to bare aluminum. I've tried a wire wheel and I'm not so sure if it's the best method. I'd just like to strip them and start fresh.

You can bead blast them or chemically strip them.

Paint stripper, then finish up by bead blasting.

I just went through this with the trim for my '66 in order to get it to raw aluminum so it can be polished. I used aircraft stripper to get the paint off, but that won't attack the anodizing. The next step was to submerge it in a bucket with some drano crystals (about 2 tablespoons per gallon) for 1-2 hours stirring the solution from time to time. I tried wire wheels and other abrasives first in order to strip the anodizing/paint, but was left with scratching that was very difficult to get out. Hope this helps!
