............ that a little silk screening would mean so much after forty years.

Would never pay that in a hundred years. My repop looks and fits just fine.

FWIW, for under $200 you can purchase an excellent reproduction from Paragon Corvette.

The complete breather assembly or lid can be ordered with the flash or show chrome, and the straight or curved silk screen, very good quality IMO.

In 2003 when I built my driver (wagon ). I had a LS-5 type lid on the air cleaner, And a repop on my El Camino. 4 years later I Cleaned up the Org. LS-5 lid (with screening ). The real one is now on the Camino and the repop is on the wagon.
I also have another Real LS type-open lid (with screening )on the shelf.

I wonder what year that is from? The original on my '68 is printed in a circular pattern, this one is straight. Old thread about this- http://www.chevelles.com/forums/showthread.php?t=253760

Good question Bill. In the ad it states "probably a very early take off". I certainly don't know if that refers to early in a specific model year or early overall time frame when these lids became available. I believe the Corvettes were the first to receive this air cleaner style, while our Chevelles probably didn't start until 1966??????

Has anyone ever used Paragon's "re-screening" service as highlighted in that other thread?

I'm not really overly concerned about this, but would like to know just for personal knowledge - did 1969 use the straight or curved screen?

Don,
I'll have to check Bob's '69. I'm pretty sure his air cleaner is original to the car and i have seen the screen...just can't remember how it looks.

the silk screening is still wrong. originals had much bigger lettering.

I bought an original one that was off a '69 Chevelle in the spring. I was told it was worth about $250 and it was not as nice as that one. The lid is on my car but the base would not fit with the fuel regulator in the way.

There is a difference between a repop and an original but most people don't know or don't care.
