If there is an Auto-Zone near you they rent out a ball joint press. It worked great for me and I used it when I installed the new bushings also. All they charge you is a deposit for the value of the tool and then you get it back when you return the tool. So it's free to use

Also try this, freeze the ball joints in your freezer . this will shrink them a little.

theres a tool that looks like a big c clamp that is made just for this. You use with impact to get in and out. what ive done tho is used a piece of pipe that fits to the ball joint and let the car down on jack until the weight of car is pushing on the pipe. then take a small sledge or maul and beat on the lower control arm until it goes in. but youd better off getting the tool

If you are going to use the tool with an impact gun, make sure that ball joint is going straight in. The last ball joint I did with one of those began to go in crooked and the threads on the tool stripped out  . I finished the job with a 5 pound hammer. Of course I did have the control arm off the car when I was doing this also.

Just get the tool from AZ, you won't have any probs, plus get them out with the tool also.

If you read directions, Remember that the rubber dust boot goes on after the ball joint is installed, some of the directions that come with the joints are not very well written.
