For those of you that have not done it yet and want to here is where to look

I literally just finished putting in my new box and taking it for it's maiden cruise.

The box was a replacement box at your local autozone store with the part number 7525
$150ish dollars with tax and core charge

I know many people do not want to put a junk yard box in their car. This part number is correct. Thanks to Bob for verifying it with me

I got the part number 200 rag joint via your local advance autoparts store
$35.00 with sales tax

the nut on holding the pitman arm is big, about 1 inch and 5/16ths. I just vice grips and put the extention to my floor jack over the handle to the vice grips to get it off since I did not have the socket.

I could have bought and waited for the Lee inserts for the new jeep box, but couldnt wait so I threaded a bolt into my old chevelle/el camino box and pulled out the brass seats that were in the old one.

After pulling both out I grounded down the lower half on a grinding wheel, cleaned them up from any metal shavings and dropped them down in the Jeep GC box.

After dropping them in I threaded in my chevelle lines after adding liquid teflon to the threads.

They seated just fine and so far after my first cruise there is no leaks and no signs of anything being wrong.

This might be temporary as I would like ones that pressed in, but for those of you that dont have the 20 bucks for a set of them from Lee they will work here.

I just wanted to make sure people who wanted to do the swap but didnt do a refurbished box that the part number I listed is in my elco right now and is correct.

if you have any other questions let me know, I realize it has been covered many times but now the refurbished box part :)

a word of caution on these Jeep GC boxes from local parts houses. I bought one from the local AC Delco wholesaler. Used this website to verify the steering ratio: http://www.pozziracing.com/camaro_steering.htm . The box I received has a ratio of 14.4:1 instead of 12.7:1. The output shaft turns 80 degrees in 3.2 turns of the input shaft. 80/3.2 = 25 degrees per input shaft turn. Divide 360/25 = 14.4. End result is I'm returning the box and getting one from the junk yard. Buyer beware on these auto store rebuilt Jeep GC boxes.

Matt,

Did you take any pics of how you modified the brass seats from your OEM box?

With it in I have about 2.5-2.75 turns lock to lock? I would assume this is correct and I also got the stiffness in the steering, which was primarily what I was after.

I didnt take pics of how I modified the chevelle box seats. I pulled them and ground off the bottom side untill I could get 3-4 threads started on the chevelle lines into the box. Then I snugged them down tight with teflon sealant around the threads. Seems to be holding up so far.

What are the seats out of. They look good in there. What springs did you go with to get the ride height?
