Hello;

I've read I can use screw in Chrysler ball joints to do a B-Body spindle swap. I've looked but I haven't be able to match a number to the ball joint. Any info on the ball joint and the sleeve would be greatly appreciated.

I checked out Speedway Motors and Stock Car Products web sites but they have a few screw in ball joints listed and I don't know which ball joint it is and even if I did I'm not sure if I can cross reference to what they sell. Here's the link to their Ball Joints. (http://www.stockcarproducts.com/susp7.htm) I believe it's the second last ball joint but am just guessing. They also appear to have a press-in sleeve that fits the required B-body ball joints which could also be an option.

I'm working on the frame and planning the b-body upgrade right now and was thinking that I would weld in sleeves and also weld a plate onto the bottom of the arm that is also welded to the sleeve.

I think you may have Chryslers and GM cars and B-Bodies mixed up.

GM lowers are pressed into the stock 64-72 lower control arm.

If you want to use B-Body spindles from a GM car, then you need to have a B-Body ball joint turned down on the base where it presses into the stock lower control arm. That's a fact.

B-body Chryslers and B-Body GM cars are NOT the same thing.

I have never read about using screw-in lower ball joints but that's when I swapped 74 Dart spindles into my friends 68 Charger. But that's a MOPAR.

:cool:

been there done that. i bought the sleeves to weld n to the arms but after much thinking decided that turning down the b-body ball joints is still the best option.

No, I don't have Dodge and GM parts mixed up. I've found a few references to using a Chrsysler type crew in ball joint when putting GM b-body spindles onto a Chevelle. It requires the purchase of a threaded sleeve that is welded into the a-arm in place of the press-in hole. The threaded ball joint sounds interesting because no pressing is required and I'd do some arm strenthening while welding it in.

I could also buy the GM sleeve described as being for "S-10 Pickup, 70 - 96 Camaro, 73 - 88 Chevelle, 77 - 85 Impala, 73 - 88 Monte Carlo" since that one should fit the b-body press in ball joint.

FO_FDYFO, I know you bought the sleeves, but which ones?

On a similar note, you sould be able to use a Vega lower ball joint (screw in I think) for the b-body swap upper ball joint.

i bought the weld in sleeves to fit the b-body press in ball joints. it wasnt worth cutting holes in the arms to weld them in. too easy to just turn down the ball joints and press them in. i turned down an extra set for spares while i was at it. i dont really like the screw in type, i dont see anything wrong with the press in type.

OK, I understand you now. Why don't you like screw-in ball joints?

It was actually a post Chevello put up about 6 months ago that said that Chrysler ball joints could be used.

i just dont see anything wrong with press in type. i guess i dont like how the screw in type could twist out, i suppose you tack them in place?
i cant back it up other then i just like press in type better.
