I just cut 5" off my front springs. They are 16" inches in diameter so this was roughly 1/3 of a coil. The springs are from Global West and are 500LB springs. My car has B-body spindles and Hotchkiss upper a-arms. The front weighs roughly 2000lbs.
The cut netted me about a 3/4" drop.
I just thought I would add this to the database.

Tony,
It will probably drop a bit more with time. In 1991, I cut a full coil off some new TRW springs on my 66 EC. It dropped about 3/4" at first. Within several months it was lower about 1.25". It has since dropped about .5" more to 1.75". I don't know the rate on the TRW's but it is probably much lower than the Hotchkiss springs, so your's might not drop as much. Still, I'd expect another .25"-.5" of drop.

Thanks for the info Pat. The springs have been in the car for two years so Im hoping that most of the settling has already occured. It sits perfect right now.
I'm thinking of cutting the stock front springs on my '66 chevelle to lower it 2". Will I need to do a lot of re-alignment, or should it ride okay?
thanks-----Ted

Whenever you change the altitude of the front or rear of the car, the alignment changes. A 2" drop will need a new alignment unless you own a tire store. :D
