Ok, I picked up this '70 Monte Carlo rolling chassis (no body) from my auto teacher for $150.00. I first bought it for the rear end, which is a 12 bolt, but then he told me to take the whole frame, and it has front disk brakes. I was planning to put the 12 bolt in my 67 chevelle. The 67 already has power drum brakes, but I'd like to put the disks on the front, but the monte doesnt have the master cylinder or brake booster. Do I even need this stuff sence its already got power brakes? I think it will, be because its a pretty early rear end, but will it fit the 67, or will it be too wide? What exactly will i need to take off the Monte to put the disks on my chevelle? Thanks!

I think the Monte's rear will be about 1" wider, but shouldn't pose any problems unless your tires are already just about touching the fender lips. It's likely a 2.73 gear.

As for the brake stuff, definately get the proportioning valve from the Monte.

There are many different types of master cylinders, manual, power disc, power drum, etc. Here's what to watch out for. In the rear of the master cylinder there's a hole that the pushrod goes into. There are two depths, about 1 5/8" and something else (I forget).

I don't know if it's ok to interchange the power brake boosters. I'd think that if your power drum booster is ok, it'd be ok to use a power disc master cylinder WITH THE CORRECT DEPTH PUSHROD HOLE in conjunction with the Monte's proportioning valve. I emphasise this hole business because last year I bought a new one without checking first and had to eat it because I did the unthinkable (put brake fluid in it).

I was able to special order a new Bendix from Advance.

Like I said, I'm not sure if the boosters are interchangeable, or if it's ok to bolt a power disc cylinder to your power brake booster.

Maybe someone else will have a more definate answer.

Yeah, the gears are 2.73. It didnt come with the Monte's master cylinder or brake booster, and I dont really know what the preportioning valve is, but i dont think it has that either.

70 monte didnt have a proportioning valve, just the same old drum brake distribution block on the frame and a metering valve that was plumbed into the front brake lines and hung under the master cylinder. You are better off to just replace the distribution block with a one piece combination valve.

My bad...my 70 Monte has one, but that may be because I switched to a 71 Camaro power disc set up for a spindle conversion. It has the little button that you press in when bleeding (which I've read is overriden if someone applies a foot to the pedal). Now that I think about it, I know the proportioning vavle (if that's what it is) came off the Camaro, and I don't remember what was there originally, but tt come with power disc brakes.
