: Disk Conversion with 14" Rally Wheels

I am having some trouble with my manual drum brakes and am thinking about converting to Power 4-wheel disk, or at least the fronts. It looks like stainless steel brakes makes a kit for 14" wheels. The summit kit looks like a nicer kit (drilled rotors, stainless steel lines, coated steel parts, etc) but it says that 15" rims are the minimum recommended size. Just curious if anybody has sucessfully used the summit kit (or others) with 14" wheels. Also looking for any recomendations (brands) for complete kits front or rear.

Thanks,
Nick

Nick-
What year is your car? Some 14" wheels will fit disc breaks if there was an option for it. I have a 71 that had drums all around, I bought a front disc system off a 72 Monte Carlo. I was unsure as you, but I was able to bring one of my wheels to the guys house (i bought it locally) and test fit it to the brake set up.
I believe the lip on the outside of the wheel will determine if disc will fit or not. If the disc will not fit, it is because of the corners of the caliper are hitting the wheel. However, I have heard of people grinding these corners down to make it fit. Hope this helps.
Here is a link when I had these same questions:

Don't forget that if you want to stay with the drums you can get a big improvement with this for $316 total for front and rear:

I don't know about the Summit kit but the Right Stuff kit I used said 14" wheels would not work. I made the kit work by grinding the edges off of the caliper bracket to clear the wheels.

My Chevelle is a 70. I think if I switch to disk I would rather just buy a kit rather then use a donor car so that everything is new and made to go together. Grinding the edges off of the caliper isn't a bad idea. The rotor in the Stainless kit that says it works with 14" wheels is an 11" rotor, and so is the Summit kit so I would assume they would be awful close to the same measurements. The calipers are coated (one of the reasons I like the Summit kit better) so it would be nicer to not have to grind them, but...
