Alright guys here is the deal, I have a 69 original vynal top and the original color was an ugly green (so that is out of the question). I have always loved the garnet red, but after staring at pics the color seems to be getting "old" to me (I still think it is an awsome color, very classic looking). I recently started falling in love with le mans blue, but I like the white SS stripes on the side. If I stick with my black top, I "think" I will need to stick with the match black side stripes??? Or do I scratch the top? I like cars with and without the top, so I am fence sitting on that one. The car will be garaged and driven only when the weather permits. The interior is black, if that makes a difference. Thanks for you insight!

I have seen lemans blue cars with black interior and white stripe. Not sure if it is correct (or if you care) and it looks nice. No vinyl top though.

Garnet red is also very nice. My only advice would be to paint it whatever color combo YOU like but I am always partial to the 69 colors.

Well Ken, of course I'm a little partial to Lemans Blue ;)

Here are a few factory specs to point out:
1) - Lemans Blue with no vinyl top got a White side strip.
2) - Lemans Blue with a Parchment vinyl top got a White side stripe.
3) - Lemans Blue with a Black vinyl top got a Black side stripe.
4) - All these were regardless of what the interior colour was.

Now I will give you my opinion on maybe what you are thinking:
1) - If you go with a Black vinyl top I would probably stay with the Black stripe.
2) - If you go without a vinyl top then pick the stripe colour that appeals to you the best.

Hope this helps, good luck.

Chevrolet's stripe color chart (http://www.chevellestuff.com/1969/exterior-interior.htm) shows the vinyl or convertible top (not interior color) would dictate the stripe's color; for LeMans Blue a white stripe unless convertible or vinyl top is black - then a black stripe.

Oops, looks like Don got in here while I was researching. I agree with Don's opinion as well.

My vote is for a Black Vinyl Top, Black Stripe and LeMans Blue.
The Garnet Red is also an awesome color with a Black Vinyl Top and Black Stripe.
Fathom Green Metallic and Burgundy Maroon Metallic are also two very nice colors to consider. I would do those with a White Stripe and No Vinyl Top.
I am partial to red cars. My 2 64s are Palomar Red and my 66 is Regal Red.

X 2 I think it would look great, But i might be bias. My 72 is blue, Black top and Black stripes. I think yours would look great because if memory serves me the lemans blue is quite a bit lighter than my blue which would make your stripes stand out even more.

I appreciate all your feedback and the general concensus I get from all people I ask is that the red is traditional, but the blue is unique. What do you guys think about removing the car's vinyl top? Like I said, I like it both ways, but I am a little leary about removing the top....Any thoughts?

I was going to leave my vinyl off but when i put the body filler in the seams i did not know that, When its a vinyl top the quarter to the roof is all body filler. When its non vinyl they use lead to fill the heavy part of quarter to roof seam, then a skim of body filler. after paint a small crack formed in paint on both sides of the car where roof met quarters. it was either grind out both sides and repaint or put the vinyl back on so i went vinyl.

A good friend of mine back in the early 80's had a '69 SS that was Lemans blue with the white stripe and black interior. Sharp looking car!!

Hey Ken,
Look at my sig. I have Lemans Blue with a white top and blue interior. Not a very common combo that I have seen. If you want something that not many have, take a look.
Good luck, as long as you are happy is all that matters.

Don't forget Lemans Blue with a Dark Blue Vinyl top...!The color combination chart doesn't show the LeMans Blue available with the Dark Blue vinyl top. Dark Blue vinyl top available with Dover White, Glacier Blue, Dusk Blue and Cortez Silver.

Do you have, or know of, a 69 with the trim tag coded as 71 C? I wonder if one could be ordered, maybe even with the LeMans Blue ordered as a special order paint and having a DuPont paint code used?

Hmmmm, nice try Chris :p

I do not believe you could get the Blue vinyl top on Lemans Blue paint. I think the Blue vinyl top was available only on Dover White, Dusk Blue, Glacier Blue and Cortez Silver. I certainly stand to be corrected here.

OOPS - looks like you beat me this time Dale :D

Ken, your name is Ken Block? Is that right? You're not this guy, are you?

By the way...I say lose the top, and paint it to look like there is a vinyl top on it.

Ah, Canadian-built. Canada often offered colors and choices not available in the U.S. I'll add the color option to ChevelleStuff.com for future reference. Thanks for the update!

Now I am even more confused then before, with all this talk of le mans blue :) I would perfer the le mans blue w/o the top and white stripes, but it seems to be more of a pain to get rid of the vinyl top. Plus, thats history that I dont know if I want to later....any thoughts? Its funny you showed that video, we did that a long time ago and I almost forgot about making it....j/k, I get that all the time. I am tempted to say yes half the time :)
