: I really hate IE8, how can I revert back to IE7?
Rich-L79 Jul 6th, 09, 2:51 PM I got tired of being bugged by MS about IE8 so I decided to download and install it. I previously used IE7 and it worked fine. I really don't like how 8 works. Can I uninstall 8 and revert to 7 without too much trouble and without destroying my settings and Favorites list?
Skeeveman Jul 6th, 09, 3:25 PM Personally, I'd keep IE8 installed, maintain the current MS updates/fixes, and install Firefox to use as your main internet browser.
Cecil Jul 6th, 09, 3:41 PM For those of us who aren't there yet, what don't you like aout IE8?
If you have AT&T DSL, call the DSL help line at AT&T and ask them to talk you through uninstalling IE8 and reinstalling IE7. That's what we had to do after installing (or attempting to install) IE8 and it screwed up our computer to where we could not access the internet. That was after seeing the ads on yahoo.com that recommended the update to IE8. After the second call to ATT we were told IE8 wasn't compatible with the ATT DSL we have. All is fine now after reinstalling IE7.
Stikman33 Jul 6th, 09, 4:06 PM Trust me, i have worked in software and online companies for years...
Go with Firefox, safer, cleaner, easier on computer resources, and does everything and more that IE does.
Only thing i use IE for anymore is to run windows updates, since you have to use their browser to run their updates....

If you upgraded from IE7 ,you can just use 'add/remove' to uninstall the update.
If you didn't do the upgrade ,it isn't listed in the 'add/remove'.
ScottC Jul 6th, 09, 4:50 PM IE is a sinking ship as is Microsoft in general. The other browsers out there are way ahead of IE in terms of speed and features.
Firefox 3.5 just came out and it's really nice. I've gotten too used to the "awesome bar" since 3.0.
Chrome is also good because it's so damn fast.

Contrary to the claims it makes, it is slower. I really hate when IE8 tries to recommond similar web sites to those I'm currently visiting. IE8 tries to put so darn many tool bars at the top of the screen the viewing area is noticeably diminished (at least on my 13" monitor).

I dont like the browser much (I use firefox) but you can turn it off (recommendations, livesearch, toolbars, etc). When you installed you should of been prompted to enable this or disable it. I have it installed on 2 machines I built for my mother and a buddy and turned this off. No problems or complaints and its fairly quick.
Maybe disable livesearch and all the extra fluff within IE. Or just keep it updated and dont run it, stick with firefox.
Stalkingbear Jul 7th, 09, 12:29 AM Firefox for me also!
Berto Jul 7th, 09, 12:33 AM Go with Firefox, agreed. I refuse to install IE 7 for that matter, running 6.0.2900.5512
rchevellea Jul 7th, 09, 2:35 AM i have been thinking about installing firefox for a while now and after reading this post i went ahead and downloaded it...man i love it it is faster and has a few extras that i love...im gonna go play around with it and see what else i can find
Tom Mobley Jul 7th, 09, 5:23 AM Did anybody mention Firefox? :)
I haven't used IE in so long I've forgotten how ugly and slow it is.
Friends don't let friends drive IE....
MS thinks you're too stupid to go where you want today, so they put up all these prompts. Sort of like some cheap cruddy internet store. That's what Bing is all about too, MS thinks people are too stupid to decide what they want, so Bing does it for them.
OTOH, read the news, maybe MS is right about the stupidity level out there.
Did anybody mention Firefox? Yet?
Microshaft is the next GM.....
Bob80Elcam Jul 7th, 09, 8:33 AM I uninstalled IE8 by using System Restore and going back a few days. It was easy.
Bob80Elcam Jul 7th, 09, 9:31 AM After reading all the praise for Firefox I decided to download it and give it a try. It is faster than IE. The screens just pop up instantly. I will keep experimenting with it.

Sad. This is why monopolies are bad.
Rich-L79 Jul 7th, 09, 2:07 PM Can Firefox bring across my existing list of Favorites from IE?
Yes, it will ask you if you want to import from IE

Surprise, surprise, another nasty security problem from MS. There's been thoudands, will be thousands more.
DaleM Jul 7th, 09, 3:23 PM I've used IE since, well, I guess forever. I upgraded from IE7 to IE8 and noticed absolutely no difference. No new tool bars were added, although a lot of software try to add more like Yahoo, etal. IE8 seems to be just as fast as Firefox, Safari, or Opera. IE8 also fixed a problem I was having with IE7 playing nice with an older version of Adobe Acrobat Pro. IE7 would never open a .PDF file from the net so I resorted to Firefox when I knew one was coming. IE8 'magically' solved that with absolutely no intervention on my part. I only use Firefox now when I need a screen color, window size, or troll my Google AdSense account - and all of those are Firefox plugins. I have IE8 on 3 different desktop PCs, 2 with XP Pro, 1 with XP Home, and 1 laptop with Vista Home Basic - all work well for me.
To each their own I guess...
Skeeveman Jul 7th, 09, 6:54 PM All of the browsers can be made to work fine and relatively trouble free. Each has their own plus's and minus's. I just prefer Firefox, has about any and every add on you can imagine to customize it to your exact needs. Plus, I do think it's faster than IE, you really notice the difference when you get a lot (15+) of tabs open. This holds especially true it seems when some of the tabs are streaming some sort of data or another.

Yes, the new 3.5 is quite a bit faster than 3.0.
And it rarely crashes. When it does, Firefox, remembers where you were and how many tabs you had open. Restart firefox, and they all come back.
I have IE8, and it crashes daily.
I've used firefox for years. I still don't like the way firefox display, webexchange servers, but other than that, its all I use.
IE is for updates.
Chrome and Opera also work well.

Elcoman Jul 8th, 09, 1:34 AM What is IE?:confused:l:)
Firefox is the best ever!!!
Aceshigh Jul 8th, 09, 2:11 AM Go with Firefox, agreed. I refuse to install IE 7 for that matter, running 6.0.2900.5512
We agree.
I haven't used IE on my personal computers since IE4 came out.
I only use IE at work because I have to for the intranet sites.
Almost every computer geek who knows how to repair PC's doesn't use IE.
We all for the most part use FF from what I've experienced.
