Ok guys I got a big job going. I recently replace my floor and trunk from an original rust free donor car. Now Im getting ready to install new quarters. Tonight I started installing the doors and front clip before I weld in quarters. My gaps are off and Im not sure were to start. The new floors and trunk have not been welded yet. Im not welding anything until all gaps are perfect. I fell like I need a starting point maybe from doors forward then the quarters.

The door hinges need to be rebuilt first. The adjustment on the door side of the hinge controls the tilt of the door, the A pillar side of the adjustment controls the front - back and up - down of the door. This should have been done before cutting the floors out.

Yes definatly big lesson learned!!!! The trunk and floor is a solid full piece including rockers. Quarters are cut off and ready to hang new ones. Floor and trunk are in place but Nothing is welded yet. I have new frame bushing bolted down but can easily adjust as needed. I wont weld anything other than a tack or two until all gaps are perfect.
All parts and panels are original rust free from donor cars. This is a ton of work using donor parts but I think Ill be happy in the end.
Door and fender alingment seem good so far but big problem now is the back of the hood is 1 inch higher than the fenders. I cant lower the hood any more its hitting the top of the cowl. I dont think Ill do much more front end adjustment until I get one quarter hung but not welded. Im on vacation for the next week and am hoping to get this close but am very doubtful.

!- Get your floor welded in.
2- Get your trunk floor welded in.
3- Get your 1/4 panels welded on.
4- Fit your doors.
5- Align your front end sheet metal.

Yes its on frame with new bushing, Bushing are not tight. Door fender and hood are on. Both quarters are cut off Im fitting the new quarter and should be placing it in the next 2 days, Ill have to save some money before I get second quarter.
Nothing is welded yet.

I have to disagree with this sequence. The doors should ALWAYS have the hinges rebuilt and the doors then be properly aligned with the ORIGINAL quarters FIRST. You then cut the quarters off and fit the new ones to the doors. This will insure proper gaps in the jamb areas.

Tom is exactly right. Plus, you MIGHT have to put a big floor jack in the rear, right where the rearmost body mount bolt goes. Most times the quarter panel will need to be rotated up and towards the front of the car, if that makes sense. When you put the quarter panel up on the car, you'll need to have the door installed and parallel to the rocker panel. Most likely you'll have a gap that is wider at the top than the bottom. (door to quarter). Put the jack in the rear under the frame on the side you're working on, and jack it up until the gap closes at the top. You'll need to weld the panel on with the car jacked up or it will never stay.

I absolutely agree with getting the hinges rebuilt and aligning the doors to the original quarters. It would have been helpful to take cross measurements of your door openings before you cut out your floor and rockers, then make sure your measurements are the same after the new parts are installed.I would fit the whole car together and hold your floors and quarters in place with sheet metal screws.Only when you are happy with the fit can you spark up the welder.
