: 70 BB A/C bracket
danhalt Jul 5th, 09, 10:28 PM Do any of you 70SS BB guys with A/c have this bracket 3969910 that extends over the valve cover to the intake bolt, on your cars?
Mine didn't have one when I got it and I've never seen one on a car yet.
Thanks
Dave

BlueSS454 Jul 6th, 09, 7:34 AM That picture you have is for 1971-up applications, but will work on 1970's. You just have to use the rest of the 71-up brackets with it.

Would anyone have a picture of the 70 bracket?
I got the part number 3969910 from the assembly manual.

Well it looks like i have whats called the first gen design that pivots on the bottom.
Does anyone know what bolts to use on the manifold? Straight 3/8 bolts? or the ((bolt/stud fastener (3/8-3/8) or (3/8-5/16))?
The assembly manual I have does a great job of illustrating the second gen but doesn't show the first gen parts.
Thanks
Dave

Dave, as I recall the bracket is bolted down directly to the manifold with 3/8" bolts, no studs or nuts. I had a '70 SS convertible that was missing this part when I got it. Long before they were repro'd it was difficult to find that bracket and especially the barrel spacer. Good luck.
sparky1698 Jul 7th, 09, 10:25 PM Mine has studs and nuts. I looked in the parts book and they show bolts. I figured with the studs and nuts it would be easier to take the bracket off if the the valve cover ever needs to come off.
danhalt Jul 8th, 09, 6:29 AM Good info on the bolts guys. Thanks.
I can remember back in the late 70's early 80's when working on these motors you looked at these brackets as overkill and in your way to get at a valve cover. Guys tended to leave them off for good if they had to remove them for repairs. Now we pay extra to get them back.
Thanks Again
Dave
Dean Jul 8th, 09, 11:52 AM Probably a lot of them were removed because many valve covers are too tall.
The first set of valve covers I bought were too tall and I contemplated removing the bracket but decided against doing it and found shorter covers.
The bracket is supposed to set down on the intake so using studs raises it up on top of the stud nuts.
