: auto parts store boosters?
Deadcarny Mar 5th, 05, 5:09 PM Are they Cad coated? A prior owner of my car painted the booster black and I want it cad and was thinking about just buying a new one from a parts store that was already Cad coated. Anybody ever bought one and know for sure?
Strokd66 Mar 5th, 05, 6:35 PM The boosters I sell are all remans and are usually bead blasted and left with that finish. I do not sell brand new boosters. I cant think of a parts store that does sell "NEW" boosters. I would suggest MP Brakes or having someone coat a reman one.
Black69 Mar 5th, 05, 6:39 PM Where is the best bang for the buck on booster/mc combinations. I see lots of them for sale listing 7" 8" or 9" boosters but not many 11". Are the ones from Classic Performance any good, they have a price of $359 for booster/mc/combination valve which seems to be a good price, but that's only for a 7,8, or 9 inch booster I believe.
Strokd66 Mar 5th, 05, 6:43 PM I have a stock 68-72 style 11" booster on my 66 with a napa master cylinder part #39018. I purchased my prop valve from MP Brakes. I have 4 wheel disc brakes and they work perfect. MP Brakes said with my 355 with my XE268H cam, and my 4 wheel disc brakes, my stock 11" booster is fine. Go to Napa and price out the booster and master and see what you come up with. I know I paid about $100 for the valve through MP Brakes.
Black69 Mar 8th, 05, 12:43 PM Strokd66 do you happen to know how many inches of vacuum you pull with that cam? I'm having a brake problem and don't have near the cam you do but only pull 12 inches at idle and 20 at around 1200 rpm. Just don't seem to have the brakes that I want and don't know if it's vacuum, mc, or booster.

I think the newer small boosters are probably as good or better... The smaller size is usually because people want a less intrusive booster than the big ol' factory booster... Takes up less space, and helps clean up the look of the engine compartment...
OLDED Mar 8th, 05, 3:23 PM A trick I like to use is to buy a "loaded" MC and Booster for a 76 Monza w/V8 and disc brakes and install it as a unit. The booster is nice and compact and the MC has a 1" cylinder which gives good pedal feel. The only things you need to fab are the mounting holes to the firewall which need a bit of filing to match, and the M/C push rod. The M/C 3/8" push rod gets the Monza application loop end cut off and the rod's end gets rethreaded using 3/8" fine thread. Reuse the clevis end from the old M/C. I've used this combo on 55 and up applications and it works.

Mike72ss Mar 8th, 05, 4:15 PM Sorry, those were the 9". Here are the 11" boosters. (http://www.hotrodsusa.com/store/booster11.html)

All remanufactured boosters I have seen in parts stores have been painted. I got my 11" together with a kit, bought it off eBay. It's an MBM brand, stock style cad plated booster and looks like a Delco, but without the "Delco-Moraine" stamping. Don't know much about the MBM brand, but it came in a box with the "GM Restoration Parts" logo on it, so it should hopefully be a good one. Here's a picture (http://www.mbmbrakeboosters.com/Images/web-catalog/pages/PB11003_jpg.htm). They also sell this one (http://www.mbmbrakeboosters.com/Images/web-catalog/pages/PB11001_jpg.htm), which I believe is the same unit but with the stamp. They only sell wholesale, but I might have the eBay seller's e-mail address if you want to check the price.
musclecarfreak Mar 8th, 05, 10:08 PM How about having your factory one rebuilt?
