I came across a screwdriver in my tool box today, and I think it came with my 70 chevelle from the factory. It is a wooden handle Stanley phillips screwdriver. It was to remove the center caps from the ralley wheel. does anyone remember these,or am I just loosing my mind. Thanks Joe.

I seriously doubt that Chevrolet issued Stanley screwdrivers with rally wheel equipped 70 Chevelles. The tapered end of the bumper jack handle would work just fine for removing the center caps.

I guess I meant Super Sport wheels, not ralleys.I don't think you can remove center caps using a jack handle.I think they were held on by phillips head screws.

I know for the optional Corvette wheels in 67 a Irwin flat blade screwdriver came with it to remove the center cap. does it say anything in your owners manual or is there anything in the AIM about what comes with the SS wheels?

Early caps were held on with two 1/4-20 screws. Later ones snapped on. No screwdriver mentioned in the assembly manual in the spare tire/jack assembly directions..... :noway:

Even with SS wheels, I am betting against a screwdriver being issued with the car from the factory.

As Dave says, part way through the 70 production year, they changed the SS wheel center cap design to a snap-on type.

the 70 SS wheels have exposed lug nuts so you don't need to pry anything off to get to them.

I did not get one in my February built, 1970 SS Chevelle.
