i was in another thread earlier, and it dawned on me, that over the years, i've seen several southern bands play, thunderbirds, 38 special, ga. satelittes. first off, i call these party bands, it seems not like a concert, but a huge party when thes type of bands play, and some of my craziest nights have been during these concerts.

now the part i have to ask. when the southern bands play, sooner or later shoes are thrown at the stage, and the band, usually without skipping a beat, throw the shoes back. can anybody tell me where this started, and what the heck is going on? is this a sign of appreciation??? i just never really seen anything like it. is it a carry over of throwing beer bottles at the stage? i've never seen a band quit because of it, and act like it's just a normal part of the show....at first i thought it was idiot californians, but i've been to several concerts in al. and ga. and it happened there too....

You see Bill, not everyone here in the South can afford shoes so the ones that do have them like to share the wealth. ;)

Hence the old adage...If the shoe fits, wear it:thumbsup:

If I was fixin to play a song and someone fired a shoe at me I reckon I'd fire it right back at 'em.

Throwing shoes is a unique gesture of appreciation and approval of whoever is on the stage. That's what the Iraqi journalist was doing for Dubya last year. Dubya screwed up by not throwing it back, or at least using it to beat the living hell out of the guy.:D

My Dad always said they had to walk barefoot to school in the winter time until Christmas cause they wore out their one pair from working in the fields all summer.
