Quadrajet #'s are 7040208 1A 1270

What is this carb. from? What is the CFM? 4 speed or automatic?

Looks like a 1970 Chevrolet or GMC don't know what engine configuration. Maybe someone else can give you that. The last number (in your case an "8" would give you this info). There should also be a seperate and different part number on the float bowl.

The 1A is probably a YA and deisgnates the assembly plant (unknown to me)

and the last 4 are the julian date with year 1270 = 127th day(May 7th) of 1970

2 ~ Quadrajet (4-bbl) Federal Standards

There's one on eBay (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1970-Quadrajet-carburator-7040208-4bbl-Chevy-truck_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQimsfpZTL090629208005r35950 QQimsxZ20090629QQitemZ270417542811QQsalenotsupport ed) now with the same 1A designation dated 0560 supposedly from a 1970 Chevy truck with a 350 and automatic transmission and federal emissions. Calvin's by the numbers book doesn't list the carburetor but it doesn't list truck items - could very well be from a 350cid truck engine. This site (http://www.carburetor.ca/carbs/catalog/ChevroletTruck/index.html) also lists it for a truck.

Dale correct on the year 40 is 1970 , 41 is 1971, etc. to 1975. I believe 0,1,2 were GM or Chevy though.
