hi everyone. I have a 69' el camino. Recently converted the stock point & condensor with an accel dual point breaker kit. It ran great for almost a month before crapping out. I get no spark to the wires, coil is fine. I decided I'm taking it back. Car is just a cruiser. I want to go h.e.i. as simply & cheaply as I can. Will the stock h.e.i. DELCO -REMY units from 1975 through 1982 camaro's work for me? If so, any special requirements. Thanks for any info. (mild 350 chevy motor, 4-speed)

Yes. You want the ones with the 4 pin module.

If you coil positive wire is the original wire (cloth covered resistor wire) Replace it with regular wire. Jegs has the wire and connectors

You can still find plenty of HEI distributors in salvage yards for 20 bucks complete.

Or as an alternative, you could send your stock dist to Dave Ray for conversion to HEI. His website is www.davessmallbodyheis.com If you email him put dist conversion in the subject line or you could call him. Good luck with your decision.

Might want to hold off for Dave. He's been through a lot of late.
As some might know, he was injured moving his sister at the first part of the year, recovered and went back to work.
Some very few months ago, he came across an armed robbery in progress at a convenience store, disarmed the robber, but not before getting shot twice, one in his left hip bone, the other in his abdomen. Dave didn't know he was shot in the abdomen, they only found it when he finally stood up and let the robber go. The gun was a .22, not powerful, but damaging. Now, I have known Dave for over 30 years, and he is a 220 lb, retired Army Special Forces operative from the VietNam era. His getting shot didn't do much for his attitude, and, he proceeded to beat the daylights out of the robber, just shy of sending him back to glory (the robber is a three tme loser, and still in the hospital). When I asked him about getting shot, he just said "It really pissed me off". He told me he had been shot three times in VietNam, so this is 4 and 5.
Dave came back home hot long ago, went to work clearing the back orders, felt he was doing well, when he contracted some sort of lung infection, doctors say it ain't a good one to have. He was returned to the hospital, had a really bad time of it, and was put into a medical coma while they went after the lung infection. Frokm speaking with the Doctors, he should be awake by Friday, and home by first of next week.
All that said, another friend of Dave, Terry, and I are going up to Dave's shop Monday, and we will pack, invoice, instruction and ship the back ordered distributors.
If you have tried to contact Dave, of course, he's been out of the loop. Terry and I will also try to get is email up and running again, and respond to all the emails I am sure are clogged up there.
I know that the most important thing for Dave is running his business, and helping others, When I spoke with him before the lung infection ordeal, he was just plain mad at himself, for not getting the work done and out. He knows there will be a bunch of rebuilding to do to get the business back up again, but his prognosis is good, he should make a full recovery fairly soon, and be stronger than before all this went down.
Anyway, Dave is more than just a guy that does distributor conversions. To me, he is my friend, and I will help him any way I can.
Regards,
Milton (Stott)
Thanks for that update, I had no idea. I usually recommend Dave to folks that need Dist work or want to convert to HEI. No, I never met the man nor have I ever had work done by him, I just read about all the satisfied customers and believe he is the one to go to to get the dist work done.
