I just painted my rally rims with eastwood silver rally paint and then cleared them with eastwood's gloss diamond clear for painted surfaces. Clear went over the base, no problem. After 48 hours I decided to lay down another coat of clear. Big mistake, the first coat of clear wrinkled right up on me.
I spoke with Eastwood's customer service and they told me to wait at least 48 hours before recoating the clear. I need to redo the wheel I messed up and I am going to use the diamond clear again over the spatter paint in the trunk, so I have to figure this out. Anyone have this same issue with this product? Also, since 48 hours wasn't enough time, what is a 'safe' amount of time to wait to recoat with the clear? All customer service could tell me is 48 hours or more. I know there are many factors, like temp, humidity, etc. and cure time depends on the particular product. But can anyone suggest a ball park cure time? I hope I can finish my wheels up over the holiday weekend!

Why wait at all? Just apply the 2nd coat after it dries for 15 mins or so. At that point, you will have more than enough paint on the wheels, than they really need.

Hi Bill, thats what I did on three of the wheels. But on the 4th I noticed a bad spot......and I can't really leave things good enough alone. So I decided to fix it and respray the clear over it. Thats where I got into trouble. Now I have one messed up wheel. I have scuffed up the clear and now am waiting to respray. Just wondering how long to wait.

OK, Then I'd stick it out in the hot sun for a few days, then shoot a small spot, and see what happens. The problem is, the spray bombs don't have hardeners in them, so it's takes longer to harden.

Thanks Bill, I'll give that a shot. Hopefully by the end of the week it will be ready!

Update: I gave up waiting. I tried again today and still got the same result (now with 36 hours given for cure). So I decided to start from scratch. Both the clear and argent wheel paint come right off with lacquer thinner. So thats a plus. I figure, half an hour to get it off and begin re-shooting paint versus waiting potentially several more days with uncertain results.
