: Correct stance?
wolfehunter Sep 12th, 04, 5:06 PM Took measurements from the garage floor to the bottom of the chrome trim on the fenders. I measured front and back directly in the center of the wheel. I'm at 26 1/2" in the front and 25 3/8" in the rear. I had installed some Hotchkis 1" lowering springs on the front in the spring so I'm sure they have settled. I've got the stock springs on the back. Looks like my rearend is still lower than the front end. What is the correct stance and where does one actually take measurements? I think I'd like a more raked or higher rearend appearance but don't want to get too radical as I understand one sacrifices handling.
sinned Sep 12th, 04, 7:39 PM correct stance can be seen here (http://www.geocities.com/teichera@sbcglobal.net/camouflage.html?1091167677750) :D :D
wolfehunter Sep 12th, 04, 9:46 PM Dennis,
That thing sure looks like it hugs the road! Does it lean at all!!?

sinned Sep 12th, 04, 11:26 PM No lean at all. Side to side difference is less than a 1/4" with me in it.

phipwood Sep 13th, 04, 1:02 PM Scott, here are a few pics of my setup, not aggressive, but stands a little taller.

I have the hotchkis front and rear suspension setup, but had to go to 2" spacers at back coils to get correct stance I wanted. I know a bunch of folks would probably shoot me for doing that, but the ride is still great, no lean, hugs the road great. The next purchase is the quick ratio steering box.
I guess it all boils down to what you are going to use the car for and how you want it to ride.
Dennis's ride would definatley outperform my setup.
My car is used for cruising, daily driver kind of stuff. Very nice ride with a great, solid, forgiving suspension. Hope this helps. I have other pics if needed.

I like ur stance, I have the hotchkis rear springs so far. How much drop did you get from your front springs and did you heat or cut coils?
Looks great
phipwood Sep 13th, 04, 8:15 PM I didn't get any drop in the front when I replaced them. I didn't heat or cut the coils at all. In fact, if I didn't know better, I could have sworn they sent me big block coils the way it kept the front end up. I'll dig through my receipts and let you know exactly what I put in. Nice pics by the way. Are using air shocks in the back?
wolfehunter Sep 13th, 04, 9:00 PM phipwood,
That's more the stance I'm looking for. Do you have 1" drop Hotchkis all the way around or standard?
gUmBaLL68Malibu Sep 13th, 04, 10:07 PM I put hotchkis in the front and it WAS 26 1/2" and after i put them in it wen to 28" from fender lip to floor with 225/60/15's
thunderstruck507 Sep 14th, 04, 6:14 PM Yeah I have airshocks in the back (soon to be gone). I'm going to lose an in in the back before I'm done playing with suspension, I want much less fender gap
I have worn out big block springs on the front of mine even though the car is a 350, I want to lose about an inch so I can use a different series tire and still have it look right.
mild68ss Sep 14th, 04, 8:32 PM wolfehunter, although I can't find the measurments I took of before and after the Hotchkis spring change, both sets of my springs had the rear end lower. Looking at original pictures it appears that the correct stance for 68-72's is that they are lower in the rear. That's going by the arch of the wheel well opening compared to the wheel.
I remember reading somewhere that Hotchkis states their springs do not settle after a short period of time.
Here is a pic (http://www.chevelles.com/showroom/mild68ss/Hotchkisstance.jpg) of my car w/ Hotchkis springs stance.
wolfehunter Sep 14th, 04, 9:09 PM Mild 68,
Really nice looking car! I've got the Hotchkis 1" drop springs on the front and stock ones on the back and this is what mine looks like. I'm thinking it is probably pretty close to an original stance.
