Well after 4 trys at getting the clutch adjustment correct on this 67 I'm happy to say it is all better.
The root of the evil was a lot of small things that needed to be fixed, the ball depth in the bell, the fork with a broken spring clip, the Z-bar was a after market junker and the one I didn't catch right away was the ball bracket on the frame had been moved to accomodate the bolt on ball for the Mitchel motor, that's the one that bit me. I had to make a upper pedal to Z-bar rod one inch longer to get the Z-bar in the right posotion to release the disk. The 2 to 1 ratio of the fork means for every 2 inches of travel the bearing moves 1 inch. You need at least .700 release to fully disengage the disk. When I started this I had less than that.
I need to give credit to GM Jim, the tech line at Center Force and Hays for their help
The ball adjustment just can't be set at the majic 4.750, there is that pesky block plate that is .130 thick and the Hays flywheel that is thicker than stock. 1.010 thick and GM is .950, all these numbers need to be factored in the final height.
At 62 years old that 100 pound M22W was all I could handle, I need to work out more!!!!!
Car runs great and the key is the owner is very happy:yes::yes::yes:
I also fixed the ignition, cooling fan relays, the leaky fuel pump and many other problems.
This is yet another example of people getting hammered by a shop that was clueless.
