: what the heck happened to my suspension?

my 67's been in storage for the winter, and now that its time to come out, i noticed that she's leaning quite a bit to the drivers side... a sag of a couple inches in difference between sides from the wheel lip to the ground.

here's the confusing part..... my front bumper and hood were off during the winter, and after i put them back on, the car is sitting only slightly off level. could i have a spring or two that are shot? could it be body bushings? before i got the car 5 years ago, two springs were replaced. it was either the front 2 or the rear 2, i can't remember.

any help would be greatly appreciated, as i don't want to throw $$ at something that isn't the culprit.

Before you worry about it, I'd drive it a little to let the suspension re-settle the way it wants to. Did you jack the car up at any point in its storage? Have something heavy rested on one side? There is alot of stuff that you could have done, but have since forgotten. I doubt one spring would show that much sag over the other, so keep it simple at first.

Best of luck,

Check for a broken front spring. They can break while the car is sitting. It happened to me.

i drove it, but the car still leans, and when i stored it, nothing rested against the car. i did jack it up, however, to change the oil. i'm not sure how that would do anything, though. when i push down on the drivers side front of the car, it sqeaks a bit to ccompress and release, or "bounce" the suspension. this doesn't happen on the pass. side, or anywhere else. maybe a symptom of something? maybe not? the lean is pretty much equal, more or less, front to back in terms of the difference in height between the driver's side and passenger side of the vehicle. i'll check for a broken spring next time i have a chance to get under the car. what exactly would i look for to identify one? a crack in one of the coils?

Have you got gas shocks? My -69 sits about 1/2" - 3/4" higher after I changed to gas shocks, they were "preloaded" and act kinda like supporting springs. It took a bit of effort to push them in before I could bolt them up. If one goes bad it would sag on that side, or rather go back to stock height.

It's likely a front one, the weight of the motor will cause the whole car to lean if a front one is broken.
