I have a th350 and the bellhousing is busted where it mates up to the engine. I have the piece that busted off but it has taken out two of the bolt holes.

Should I just get it welded back together or is there a simple way to swap the guts of my current tranny into a new case?

I am at a loss and could use some help

Try the "Performance" forum of this board. ;)

Another option would be to put an Ultrabell bellhousing on it.....basically it bolts to the trans by the pump bolts after you cut the old bellhousing part off.

your better off just getting another 350 shell and swap parts, or rebuild another

If you have an old block available to bolt this together to weld it and if you have a local talent that can/will weld alum. car parts, this it cheapest solution.Drain and clean it really good ,alum absorbs oil and makes it hard to weld, hence some will not attempt.
However ,the best solution has been stated, swap your parts into another case, and freshen up the tranny along the way.

I think that DZAUTO would say get it welded, got a welding place in your area?

I could find a welder, but I like the idea of swapping trannys better. Thanks all

My question is...why did it break? Was it in the car at the time?
If so...I'd be looking into the cause before it happens again.

I've heard of there being a potential for cases cracking if the line pressure is excessive, but I'm not sure if that would include the bell housing itself.

I broke off a bolt hole part of the bellhousing on a th400, in 1991.
I found a local welder that fixed it in his garage for $40, apparently he also does similar repairs for shops in the area.
That th400 is still in the car, and has been rebuilt twice since then.
