I am FINALLY getting around to installing my ZZ502. I have 2 questions.

1. I am wanting to replace my original TH400 with a aftermarket one. Should I just get a BM from summit or find a local one and have it rebuilt? Also, Is there a difference between a 4x4 and a car TH400? If I buy and aftermarket one, should I look for anything special considering shift points, etc...

2. I also want to buy OEM style chrome valve covers for the ZZ502 to give it the stock look. Any suggestions on a good quaility pair that will clear the rockers. I have seen the Trans Dapt and they look pretty good but have no idea how well they fit. Any other suggestions...maybe a thicker gasket for a little extra clearance?

thanks for the help!!

With your ZZ502, your stock one with a nice rebuild on it should be ok. A bit more on the torque converter might be a good idea. See if you can find a local person that has a good reputation for building a turbo 400. If you really want an aftermarket one, look into a Rossler, Coan, or talk to Jakeshoe on here. He builds some nice stuff by what I have read and he helps with questions.

As for valve covers, you can run these:

They are tall versions of the original ones. They will clean most roller rockers. Most people will not notice the difference between them and the original ones.

Those look real nice.....I hate that they dont have the drippers though. I beleive that the ZZ502 engine recommends VCs with drippers. I can find plenty of chrome OEM repro VCs that are standard size with drippers but no chrome OEM style repros in the tall version with drippers.

I believe I am just going to buy a transmission from summit. The BH TH400 #112002 is the model I think I have decided on. It is just a standard TH400 but they advised it should handle up to 650HP.....way more than my application will have.

Any thoughts on the torque converter for a driver with ocassional track time?

As for the valve covers.....still no Chrome, Tall, OEM styles with drippers that I can find.
