I searched, but didn't anything about a better functioning blower fan that will last...

read some stuff that "rebuilds" might have fewer turns in the wiring, and therefore worse than original...

I don't mind some mods, as long as they aren't readily visible (hidden under the fender)...

Buy a blower motor listed for an A/C-equipped vehicle. Larger motor. Works even in non-A/C vehicles.

Back in the "good ol' days" there were four part numbers: There was a blower motor with a so-called "Round" flange; a blower motor with a so-called "Triangle" flange--and two versions of each, for A/C and non-A/C. But there's no reason to buy the non-A/C blower motor.

Today there's so many part numbers of everything it makes my head spin. Clockwise rotation vs. Counterclockwise rotation, even.

I had a quality aftermarket blower motor in my '88 work truck which went bad after a number of years; I replaced it with a genuine AC-Delco blower motor. The Delco was definitely heavier and more powerful.

My car already has factory A/C... I can feel it blow cold air, but no where near as powerful as my newer cars... I can feel the cool air in my Chevelle, but my hair (whats left) actually blows around in the newer cars...

I know I could try to find a "newer" car blower that works, but in the interest of time, I was seeing if anyone else had found anything that would work AND improve the air flow...

Pull the evaporator box, and dig out all the old dead leaves.

The older cars had no real shortage of airflow; but until you've had one apart you can't imagine the crap that builds up inside the heater/evaporator box and blocks the movement of air.
