Note: I got the plate 20 years ago and I know there was no such thing as a 71 LS6 but the car 20 years ago was based on a LS6 engine and it's a 71.

(hmmm, my plate is kinda crooked) Tires are 33x22 MT radials.

Nice! Are there plans to put the back seat in, or is there not enough room for that? Those are some MONSTER tires! Looks like a backwards steamroller! Very cool.

Thanks. I have waited about 15 years to finally get this done to this car, I am so glad to have it done. There is no plans for a back seat. Still has a front bench though! But I am going to put some sort of buckets in soon. Has to get the body work done first. A 582 for it is in the works too.

ha ha, yeah, it looks like the torque bent it or something. I went out and straightened that today.

Looks great! You should haul that monster over to Saskatoon for Cruise Weekend the end of August. 800+ vehicles last year. I think yours would kind of stand out!

I may take it up there unless it is already in for body and paint. Ha ha, no burnouts yet, I need slicks that big to fit it now!

I hope you like the tires. I just took a set off my camaro. They are great for cruisin but when I hit them hard they made my car rock and sway back and forth real bad. I have talked to about 10 people who have the same problem. Hopefully yours dont do it.

You will get no traction at all. But if your just a cruiser you will be fine.

Yes, with the power I have they are not made for any real kind of racing. I can break them free no problem. I will need ET streets for that. But they look cool and keep the cops away hopefully.

WOW: Very impressive!!!
could you share with us some of the details?
Rear width?
Tub size?
Rim size?
Tire size?
Anything you really really like about it?
Anything you would do different?
Any pictures of stretching the quarters?
Did you purchase a back 1/2 kit?

(I am headed down the same path and want to learn from others)

Thanks,
b

I heard that they did make LS6's with very early 71 dates, sooo, I guess its possible to have a 71 LS6 right? Just not a 71 car.

No, didn't stretch the quarters. Didn't seem to need to and they are not too "pulled in" as you can see.

Nice set up. My car is very similar. Does it ride like crap? I have noticed my El Camino rides like crap, and if you hit a bump, its all over the road.

Sorry just noticed this post. It rides ok. I bit noisy back there with the tubs and aluminum on the street but the sound of the engine takes care of that for me :)

buy one done

Natureboy71
Jun 5th, 10, 1:48 AM
Yes I'm sure it can be cheaper to buy one done. But I have had this car for 22 years and was my first car so decided to keep it and do all this to it.

b-man
Jun 5th, 10, 9:49 AM
... same reason I did not buy one done.....as for cost... the sky is the limit... depends on resourcefull you can be with your own talent.. or friends.... or start talking to shops.. etc...

Having a friend that knows what he's doing saved me a bunch of cash..:D
Buying a car that is already done (that is done right!!) saves a lot of money too. Most shops will charge up to 6K parts and labor for a nice back half job.

Jun 7th, 10, 11:48 AM
...and judging from the photos of Matts car... an EXCELLENT job can be had for the lower dollar!!!
