carloscanales Jun 24th, 09, 7:50 PM ok guys here is whta happened
my 72 corvette is posted on craiglist
(http://mcallen.en.craigslist.org/cto/1233879005.html)
so i get this email from a gavin conrad from houston tx
he was interested in the car and told me if i was willing to negotiate the price because he had to come down to los indios texas (500 miles trip wich is not that far)
and of course i said yes
so i send him more pics and info of the car and told him that i could reduce the price because of picking it up
so i said offer
then he awnser my email and offers me
7 graaaaandd!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
holy cra p , he said negotiate no offering half the price
so he ask for me the counter offer
of course im wasnt interested in sellignto him anymore
and i drop 1000 dlls but he had lost opportunity witha that ofensive offer, i mean cmon you dont spend even 300 dlls traveling 500 miles and picking it up
then he claims that droping 1000 wasnt negotiating
and then he started ofending me that good luck to that your selling it , no one is gonna pay that for a backyard restoration
what is wrong if i restored it in my place , do i have to take it to a shop and spend a bunch of grands so i can get respect and could sell the car
unbeliavable!!!!
my final awser was go and get a inline 6 mustang with that kind of money
whta do you think??
ulySSes Jun 24th, 09, 8:01 PM Yep, it happens. It won't be the first or last.
TonyZ Jun 24th, 09, 8:02 PM your ad may have thrown him off and led him to believe he should lowball you. you said -
"need to sell asap , come and see the car , you will get an awesome deal on this one"

yep but cmon not that kind of offers
maybe i should change that from my add
TonyZ Jun 24th, 09, 8:07 PM I agree he went way low and I also agree you should remove it from your ad - some people will see you as desperate

done!
Chris R Jun 24th, 09, 8:17 PM Even if you or anyone has something they need to sell asap. I never put that part in the ad or you just end up getting a bunch of offers from yay-hoos. I would have told him to go pound sand too.

:noway: in my opinion, if i see a car that was restored by the owner, and it is actually done nice, quality work and just a really nice car overall, I give more respect and trust than to someone who did just send it to a shop and spent a ton to restore it.
If the guy built it for himself to enjoy, its probably at least to his standards for having it done. And it terms of the car being greased, oil changed, just having proper care in general, if he did a good job of a restoration, you can be he knows how to/ and does take care of it. If its just some one with a ton of money that just sent it out and hasnt laid a finger on the car interms of work done, from what i've noticed those are the guys who let small jobs/ routine maitenance turn into a big deal and problems.
Some people may totally disagree with me, just those are my thoughts, I'll always have more respect for a guy with a half decent rust bucket (not saying yours is by any means) that did all the work himself and knows every square inch of the car inside and out, compared to someone who just knows what the shop they had build the car tells them about it.
Stalkingbear Jun 24th, 09, 10:20 PM ... kinda like the guy with the pro-street Nova at the show last weekend. I asked him, did you build the engine? "Nope, paid for it..."
It is great... did you build the car then? "Nope.... I have the ideas and pay someone to do it."
How dull. No blood, sweat and tears putting it together.... my opinion of him went DOWN.
animal69 Jun 25th, 09, 8:21 AM It never hurts to lowball when buying something. All the seller can do is say no. Your ad sounds so desperate so I would do the same thing. If you aren't desperate, change your ad! And get some thicker skin. Welcome to the world of selling cars.
blue67chevelle Jun 25th, 09, 1:40 PM Thats alot better offer than my buddy got when trying to sell his 1976 corvette. A guy called and offered his sofa, blender, and washing machine in a trade for the car. Needless to say my buddy still has his vette.

grow up. Just because someone doesn`t have the time or ability or desire to build himself does not make him any less of a person.... give me a break.

Not everyone can do the work or has the time to build themselves. I do and that makes me feel lucky. My car is off to get painted this weekend. Once over the body and then paint. I will help with the work and can actually spray myself (although my friend is a professional and way better at it he'd let me if I asked) so I won't. I'll be reassembling the car though. If I didn't have the time to do it I would have to pay someone. Fact is these projects are time intensive.
sg5492 Jun 25th, 09, 4:56 PM I had about the same thing happen but it was on ebay. He was the high bidder but the car did not reach the reserve we had set. He calls me three hours after the bidding has stopped and tells me he was the high bidder on my car and that he is making arrangements for a shipping company to pick the car up and he needs my bank info so he can wire the money and my address. I told him it did not reach the reserve and I would not sell the car for the price of the bid. I told him to add $15,000 to his bid and that is what I would take for the car.
He thought that was outrageous and told me I would never get that much for a car like that. We sold it a year later for $3,000 less than what I offered it to him for. I had the car all over the net for sale and had a ton of low ball offers. It just makes you sick
robtco99 Jun 25th, 09, 6:19 PM That's just kinda how craigslist is....
I had my 96 firebird formula and 76 vette on craigslist a few weeks ago. I also put in the ads for possible trade. People wanted to trade 1k mini vans and camouflaged mail jeeps straight up. I also got offers for half price cash today l:)
I ended up selling the firebird in 2 days once I put it on autotrader. I decided to keep the vette because I wouldn't get much for it anyway. Most people only buy stuff on craigslist if it's a real good deal IMO.
Bowtie-72 Jun 26th, 09, 11:53 AM Did you hear William Shatner calling him a "mamby pamby" in the background?
