: Crotch Rockets
FLASHED Jun 24th, 09, 12:42 PM My wife and I were on or way home from Yearones monthly Braselton bash and heading north on I 75 when out of nowhere this idiot blasted beside us and pulled directly in front of us zigging in and out of traffic like a madman. He was so loud when he came by me that it really scared the pi$$ out of us and could have easily caused a fatal wreck.I dont think he would even make a good organ donor. He must have been doing 100 or better as we were doing 75 and he was gone in seconds. I dont know what he was thinking but I hope he doesnt kill someone who is innocent.
Finally Jun 24th, 09, 1:00 PM I had a motorcycle many years ago. I drove it too fast but one thing I always watched out for was cars. Never did the zipping in and out of traffic, car does a lane change and your road pizza. The crotch rockets I see seem to have an on/off switch instead of a throttle control. It's either stop or full out acceleration.
shoey10 Jun 24th, 09, 1:08 PM I had a 2002 yamaha r1. The first time I drove it the speedo wasn't working, that was because the front tire wasn't touching the ground. It was a beast.
SS427Rick Jun 24th, 09, 1:09 PM Some of the people riding these things are insane. I have been riding for 25 years and have ridden nothing but Harleys. Riding a bike taught me to be the best driver on the planet, IMHO, simply as a way of staying alive amongst the idiots on the road. Now I see these 150h.p. plus bikes ridden by generally young guys who don't have the brains or experience to handle that much power and it is killing them and worse yet, killing others. About 90% of bike accidents in my area involve young guys on high power bikes. It is the reason the insurance on my Harley went up this year I am told as it is over 1000cc displacement so gets grouped together with the crotch rockets. There has been talk of new riders being limited as to displacement and H.P. for a probationary period, but then the discrimination BS comes into play. I constantly see these idiots blasting down city streets in their little "gangs" weaving in and out of traffic. And to top it off they are wearing t-shirts and shorts. I don't imagine they would look quite as pretty after dropping their bike and losing half of their hide.
Rich-L79 Jun 24th, 09, 1:26 PM I wonder if motorcycle accidents are the leading source for organ donations?
I went to a friend's birthday party last Saturday. An old friend of his brought his Harley and during the outdoor party he constantly started the bike, did burnouts within 5 feet of other party goers, revved it incessantly while we were all trying to have conversations and repeatedly tore out of the driveway speeding away at full throttle down crowded neighborhood streets. I was told he's logged thousands of miles on his Harleys travelling all over the country. My point is, age and experience don't prevent people from being stupid and preclude them from being an accident waiting to happen, but the absence of experience expands the possibility of a bad outcome quite a bit.
charbilly2001 Jun 24th, 09, 2:21 PM The only time in my life that I have ever seen a Harley do anything useful was last year in Temecula during the Rod Run some religious fool set up his podium and battery operated speaker system right in the middle of the busiest intersection in the middle of town and started preaching too the large crowd of people who had come to see the cool cars. You could hear thi fool a block in either direction! Two Harley riders started their bikes about 15 feet from him everytime he started to preach and revved their motors and drowned him out. I thought that was an appropriate use of a Harley. I solved the problem finally. I just casually strolled by his battery and unhooked his speaker. He quit after that.
Damn fool he was!
Before the flamers start, understand, I don't have much more use for the non Harley bikes either.
forcd ind Jun 24th, 09, 3:16 PM does Ga have a 75 mph speed limit, lol
wills65 Jun 24th, 09, 3:27 PM I like the sportbikes. They are great fun for someone who can handle one. I have ridden a couple sportbikes in my life and never once broken the speed limit. NOT ONCE. To me there is too much lost in the experience of riding if you go too fast to enjoy the scenes.
Dean Jun 24th, 09, 3:36 PM He was so loud when he came by me that it really scared the pi$$ out of us and could have easily caused a fatal wreck.
I know the feeling, scared the crap out of me too.
I was doing 65 when two of them flew by doing at least 140-150 I bet.
VROOM-VROOM!!!
I just knew I would see them both dead on up the highway somewhere but never saw a sign of them again.
PaPa Johns 77 Jun 24th, 09, 3:41 PM I was running up 394 a few months ago and two went blowing by me on their back wheel! I was doing 65 and felt like I was going backwards!
My sons travel that road a lot and says it is a regular thing to see!
Beaux Jun 24th, 09, 4:02 PM Combine these stories here and you about sum up one week of commuting on i580 for me.
Guys splitting lanes between my full size truck and another full size truck, in a long sweeping turn and we're running at 75 MPH. And they STAY there - between the trucks. Saw one covered in a yellow tarp a few weeks back at my exit. Truck pulled over, bike mangled and feet sticking out from under the tarp. I bet I saw that very guy riding like a dumb ass the week before.
Its not bravery, skill or anything else - its PURE stupidity.
If I ever hit one and if he is still conscious enough to comprehend it I am going to walk up to him while he is still twitching, bend down and say
"Damn, that looks like it hurts....check it out!!! your leg is behind your ear and I can see your thigh bone!!! wow! Hey....when you recover you'll need to pay up for the ding in my truck. If you die, i'll stop over and see your wife to collect. I'll be waiting over here by my truck watching you bleed out"
the heckler Jun 24th, 09, 4:19 PM frcd ind...jawjuh has a 70 mph limit but those rules do not apply on any interstate or any hiway/loop near atlanta.....its run what ya brung until somebody has a wreck doing 80+ mph then wait in traffic for several hours while they clear the carnage....
last trip to summit in mcdonough these stupid guys came zooming around me as I got on 285E. think they were popping wheelies at 80+ mph .... fortunately they were both pulled over as they got on 75S. dont' know how the trooper got them but very glad he did it !!

Dean I would almost bet that happen on the south side of I435 by State Line road. I don't get out that way too often but it seems like when I do and it's a nice day there's always some bikes out there flying down the Highway.
71Avido Jun 24th, 09, 5:48 PM Idiots on fast bikes is simply natural selection at its finest.
I used to live near a pretty busy intersection and almost every night in the summer this one "biker" would drop his bike into neutral and jam on the gas bouncing the thing off the limiter until he came to a stop.
I had no clue that sound was impressive to anyone.

Youth and exuberance, along with that feeling of invincibility certaily contribute to the "body count" rolled up by these sport bikes. On the other hand age in and of itself is no assurance of a person not riding like an idiot.

This is true, I know several of those old idiots that think they are still 20!
I tell the wife's BIL at least he is a lot closer to the cemetary than his son is if he screws up! So at least get the kid under control before it's too late.

I have a bike that was formerly owned by a friend of mine. It is a 1000 CC 140 HP Kawasaki. At one point my friend had the bike up to the 135 140 MPH range !!! While there was more left after 140 MPH he said "Things are going by sooooooo fast that ......."
I have ridden the bike at a sustained 100 once or twice but that is frightening enough for me. Quick blasts up to 100 on an open road are one thing..blazing along at 100 + for mile after mile after mile is really stressful IMHO. How people can maintain the attention it must take to travel on crowded or even semi crowded highways at the speeds they do is just beyond me. Then we have the stunt rider splitting lanes guys. INSANITY!!!!!

There is a stroy about some dim bulb US Congressan who bought his 17 year old kid a BIG POWER Sport Bike back in the 1980's. The kid had never ridden a Sport Bike let alone a 100 HP PLUS bike. Of course the kid killed himself. Surprise Surprise!
Daddy ...wracked with guilt... proposed FEDERAL LEGISLATION preventing importing of bikes with high horsepower ratings. It was not the bike that killed the kid it was the kid who killed himself after daddy abdicated his responsibility to THINK about what he was buying the kid.
Gotta be tough raising kids when they have access to things like 150 MPH bikes. On the other hand placing a 17 year old kid on one of those things is a HUGE abdication of parental responsibility.
http://abclocal.go.com/wpvi/story?section=news/local&id=6881315 heard this on the news today . I always wonderd why a woman would get on the back of one of those ( I dont mind looking at some :) ) most that I see are driving like idiots .
pool3shark Jun 24th, 09, 9:44 PM I ride... and ill admit to rippin on it ocasionally, but the same rules apply as when im in the car: know the roads, know the traffic, and know your limits... and were the cops sit. When you start breaking those rules you start breaking bones.
Nazarah Jun 25th, 09, 12:40 PM I'm also a guilty member of the crotch rocket ownership group. an 02 Honda F4i.
I'm getting *way* too old for that 150+ mph stuff though. I drove the thing from Omaha to KC last year and didn't speed once on the way down. Didn't even want to.
It was then I knew I was getting old :D
72 malibu Jun 25th, 09, 1:33 PM See the 'going by you on a highway wheelie' here as well. The cops are everywhere this year cracking down on them, a lot of complaints. When you sit outside at night you can hear them from miles away blasting down the road. Kids are kids and speed is a drug, always has been always will...I got a ride on the back of one when I was 19-20 and experienced a wheelie , after that never again will I be a passenger on one of those cr's.Oman this was in 1988-9 and the guy had a hard time getting the 1000cc bike he wanted because of the case you mentioned.
grandsport Jun 25th, 09, 1:40 PM I made a deal on a new Yamaha last year, but my daughter let it slip to the wife before I had a plan figured out. :( Needless to say I dont have a ninja bike. First time my wife raised a stink about something I wanted to buy. She was probably right though!

Was the stink about spending money or about what it was you were trying to buy?
Alan Jun 25th, 09, 3:57 PM I'm thinking a crotch rocket is the way to go. Break every traffic law in the book and never get pulled over by a cop, feel like you OWN the road, get to weave in/out of traffic, take a two-hour commute and turn it into 20 minutes, flip drivers off that cut you off in 5mph stop/go traffic while you weave through at 60 mph.
What was the saying?
"There are old riders and there are bold riders, but there are no old, bold riders."
:)
madspaniard Jun 25th, 09, 7:15 PM I own a 98 CBR F3 600. It's more than fast enough for me. I saw the title of this post and figured it was ripping sport bike riders. Well it is but it's ripping the same one I hate. I get PO'd when I see idiots like that, because I'm guilty by association.
One of my biggest complaints is, I'll be doing the speed limit of maybe 5 over on they highway when some tool will come over on me without looking. Now I'll admit that in these situations it's really easy to twist the throttle and miss the idiot in the car. BUT I know that in this morons mind "I had to be doing 100 and came out of nowhere, even though he didn't look to see that I was there the whole time.
grandsport Jun 25th, 09, 7:18 PM Was the stink about spending money or about what it was you were trying to buy?
What I was buying,like I said she was right.
SoCal Bryan Jun 25th, 09, 9:49 PM I sure miss riding. No matter how good you think you are though, you will go down. This pic was taken of me at age 30 riding Ortega Canyon, CA before I had family depending on me. That bike was totalled... And never replaced.
