I recieved my GM sway bar yesterday. I pre-fitted it last night before painting it. It seem to fit perfectly with no shims at all. Are shims always necessary when installing a sway bar? I don't see how I could fit even one between the bar and control arm. Also the bar is centered correctly with the differential. Thanks

Jody,
I didn't use any in mine for the same reason. It fit perfectly without it. I've seen cars both ways, so I'm not sure which is correct.

I think the shims are to be used on as-needed basis. You won't always need them. When I took changed my factory control arms to SSM bars, I removed the old shims. I didn't need to use them at all with the SSMs and the same old factory bar. Just think, your car is .02 lbs lighter without 'em smile.gif

Hello Fellas,
Does anyone know when you need the shims in terms of play bewteen the bar and the control arm? Is there a measurement? I have read somewhere if there is too much space you can warp the bar.
If you need the shims and do not use them, you can bind up the lower control arms. When you tighten the bolts for the sway bar, it pulls the control arms toward each other.
