Will a 4L80e fit in the transmission tunnel of a 65 two door malibu?

With some work it will.
I have a customer who just picked up a 4L80E for a 65 Malibu. He said it was tight but fit pretty good, some hammering required.

Thanks for the info. I am buying this car and putting in a 6.0 and 4L80e powertrain I had. It has a big tunnel; but, figured the bell housing maybe tight. Are you the tranny, excuse me, transmission guy? If so where are you located? My engine guy is shooting for 450-500 horses, I am going to be looking for someone to tune the tranny next to standup behind that.

The 4L60 takes quite a bit of floor "re shaping" and the 4L80 is even bigger so you may or may not have to actually cut and add height to the tunner. I've never done it, just from researching of my own. Good luck with your project!

Any progress? Curious for the exact same application.

some of it will depend on who's motor mount kit you use, a few diff people are making the frame adapters, and relocate the engine a little diff, so trans location is a little diff also
besides some "dinking" with a hammer, you might encounter a problem with the return trans line, depending on the year trans-later 4l80e's moved it to the back, which almost always has interference with the floor, but there are solutions

I know this is an old thread, but has anyone had any first hand experience installing a 4L80 in a 68 Chevelle or El Camino? I've been fighting with an installation for the last couple of days and will be getting back to it tomorrow. I'm running into some serious interference problems and was curious what anyone else has experienced.

Thanks!
