I bought a 1 1/4 " front sway bar a few years back for my 65 . Went to install this evening and it rubs the idler.Other than that it looks ok. Anyway, I want to sell it.I don't want to advertise it as a 65 unit if that's not what it is. Any ideas ? thanks, Jay

Yeah, it'll rub. Does on my '69. Doesn't cause any problems.

Did you also replace the idler arm? I think that is what causes the problem. Originals were a little smaller and I don't think they hit a 1-1/4" sway bar.

If they bar otherwise fit fine, I'd say it's definatly for a '65 (amoung others).

Jay, I just rebuilt the front end on my '65, and I noticed the same thing. I haven't driven it yet, but if becomes a problem, I was just going to do a little clearancing with a grinder. My bar is off a TA. Is that what yours came from?

I have the 1-1/4" bar also. Have noticed a meatallic squeek up front - coming from the pass. front, probably the same interference. I am going to seriously consider replacing the 1-1/4" with a stock 7/8" or 1" bar and maybe some softer shocks. My front end has too much shutter over rough roads, I think the big bar is a lot of the problem.

Guys, I not sure about your cars, but I could not even get my bar because I had the idler on backwards. You might want to check that. The idler should flare toward the middle of the car at the grease end. I have a Helwig 1 5/16 inch bar and have not noticed a rub.

I just put my hotchkis 1 3/8" front sway bar on my 64 Chevelle last night and there was plenty of room by the idler arm. I checked it because I saw your post but it wasn't an issue.

I have a hotchkis 1-1/4" front sway bar and a idler arm from PST on my 65. They don't touch at all. There about a 1/4" apart.

Well, I put the stock one back on. New bushings and link kit. Maybe it depends on who made it and when. Thanks, all .

I have a hotchkis 1 1/4".

Bar touches the idler (both the stock and replacement I recently installed).

I have not noticed any problems after 3+ years.

You might be able to slot the brackets holding the bar a little more and get some more clearance.
