So I'm working on ordering parts for changing my PG-equipped 283 to a Turbo 350.

Am I right in assuming that if I were to buy a 153 tooth flexplate with the TH pattern, I WOULDN'T need a Staggered type starter? Or do I have it backwards and the 168 tooth was native to the 283?

The PG isn't out of the car yet and furthermore it's a county away, so I can't check.

Your current 153 tooth flexplate will work if you get the right converter, one with the smaller diameter bolt pattern. Been too long since I messed with factory stuff to tell you what to get, ask whoever you get the converter from. A 168 tooth will work with both but will require a staggered starter nose.

I already have the Converter. I'm not putting in a High-Stall converter yet, the car has stock cam/carburation. It's a 10.75 inch pattern, so if I get a 153 tooth flexplate with that pattern I'm fine with the stock starter, correct?

A new flexplate is a lot cheaper opposed to a new torque converter given that I don't need to upgrade past stock stall or torque capabilities. I'm on a shoestring budget.

If the car currently has the 153 tooth flywheel with the P/G (which has a 10.5" bolt circle), and you found a flywheel with a 10.75 bolt circle for the 350 torque convertor, then you shouldn't have any starter problems.
