Just wondering what the NHRA ruling is on window nets, noticed some have a full net that covers the entire drivers window and some only cover the rear portion of the drivers window?

I don't see anything in the rule book about how big it needs to be as long as it attempts to protect the driver from contact with the track and or guard wall.

A few of the guys @ the local track are setting them back (towards the rear of the window) about 1 foot forward of the driver. It makes alot of difference as to the view out the drivers window, which is nice if you are in the right lane

As long as your arm can't come out of the car, that's all that matters. The important part of mounting is that the net can't slide back.

We have a bar that slides through the bottom and attaches to a bracket, and the top has a bar and a seat belt clip so it can't move. I am seeing alot of racers taking out the bracket that holds the bottom of the net to the bar and replacing it with a cable. Our net has expired and we can't find one that is the same shape, so we are going to either have to have one special made or change our set up. The standard one are not very expensive but won't fit.

If it's a ribbon type it doesn't expire. Only the mesh type.

Yea, that what I told the tech @ the track, he said "well then why does it have an expiration date?" did'nt go over to well.

Yea, that what I told the tech @ the track, he said "well then why does it have an expiration date?" did'nt go over to well. NHRA has tech my car at the Nat/Div events and my ribbon net is over 5 years old and nothing has ever been said about it, and they do look at it for tears. As long as they are in good shape they will let them go. The mesh type are the only ones that I know expire. Call your Div office and talk to them about it and tell them what happened when you tech-ed your car.

Thats a good lead , thanks. The one I have has an expiration date on it next to the sfi rating, and thats what is causing the problem. The others I have seen have either removed it, or just replaced it with one without a sticker.

John, I just thought about this site, if you get some time you might want to take a look at it

http://classracer.com/classforum/index.php

There is a ton of info on there about tech, rules, S.F.I. and other things about racing. There is a lot of helpful people on their site just like here. I'm a member on there with the same user name I have here.

Mine still has the tag on it. That doesn't mean anything. The balancer is SFI certified and dated too, but that doesn't expire either per the rule book. If he wants to give you a hard time bring the rule book with you.

Ray, I think the rule book does show that window nets expire, looked at it the first time he gave me a problem, but can't remember.

Yes the rule book states mesh nets need to be replaced. It does not mention ribbon nets at all. I know at the time it happens you are hit out of left field. But go back to the trailer, look in the rule book and then go find the track manager and tell him that his tech guy was sending you home for not knowing the rules. I'm sure the track manager will be more receptive to taking your money to race.

The window mesh ones's expire every 2 years, your right the ribbon nets are not mentioned at all. I think I will just cut the expiration tag off and forget about it. Its only 2 years old and like brand new, just expired according to the tag, and thats where they are having a problem. I really don't want to confront them again, (they had a challenge w/me last time I went too fast without a license) who knows what they will find next time if they are watching for me. Maybe my paint is'nt certified to 8.5?

That sounds good, I have a ribbon net I need to install in my drag car and could not find a tag on it and figured they would give me a hard time.
