I took the front suspension almost completely off of my 70 to upgrade it with the polygraphite PST kit. I cleaned the arms up and got them blasted, painted, and ordered the grade 4 kit. I played with the lowers and got them back together but the upper bushings were too small. I called up PST and they said that I must not have the right control arm (I had a good guess that was it before I called). But without hunting down and buying new ones the man said if I could find out what mine came out of he could give me the right bushings and shaft so it can bolt on.
So my question is that if anyone knows where my upper control arms came from. Its stamped J25B5L the other is A26B5R. Also if you know someother way for me to do this. I have the bushing sleeves but the shaft I had to cut off since the man before me welded them to the bolts. The new shaft is much to short.
Thank you

The numbers you listed are not part numbers. If it was my car I'd hunt up a couple of used uppers with the shafts. Better to do it right instead of some work-around.

I placed the new shaft next to the old one I cut (bolts were welded on) and the mounting holes are off. The one I have is much longer than original 70 chevelles. So this leads me to belive that even original arms can't be used since the mounting holes do not match up. Someone must have played with it abit. How else can I find out what the arms are from?
Thanks,

I'm having trouble understanding the problem. Is this an issue with the cross-shaft? If so, do you have the Chevy style control arms, or the Buick style?
Buick style has a nut on the end of the cross shaft, Chevy style has a small bolt.
(Note: I put bushings into an El Camino, and they fit fine. That's why I call one design "Chevy style". My Father-in-Law has a '70 Skylark, and the control arm and cross-shaft is totally different. That's why I refer to a "Buick design". I have no idea what went into Olds, Pontiac, or other years of Chevy and Buick "A" bodies. I just know there are two different styles of control arms and the matching crosshaft.)

Grade 4 is just a Kit from PST that replaces most of the suspension. It’s a polygraphite kit.
My problem is that the bushings on the upper arm are too small and the shaft is small as well. So I must have the wrong arms. So I needed to find out what my arms came out of so that I may get new kit for them.
I am starting to think that the car was hit in the front badly and the person just welded on and made work what he had. The engine frame mounts were welded on and the right side access hole to get to the nuts was missing, the idler arm doesn’t match up, nothing seems to on this front end. I took some measurements from what was left of the old bushings and the shaft and gave them to PST. They said it almost sounds like someone took the suspension from an F body. Could this be true? I asked the man and he said as long as they have to right bushing and hardware that it’s possible. So now I am gathering all of my suspension components and sending them to Performance Suspension Technologies for them to take a look and find out what is going on. What a mess hopefully this works.
Has anyone ever had something like this before? It will be interesting what they find.
Thanks for the help,
-Nick

After my recent experiences with a car I'm working on, little would surprise me. The nearly 400 million people in North America (Canada, USA, and Mexico) include quite a number of idiots. Unfortunately, some of them have owned Chevelles that we end up buying.
Just my opinion of course.
