I blew the direct drive clutches out of the tranny in my car. I need recommendations for a turbo 350 that will hold 600 horsepower. The reason I need to stay with the turbo 350 is that I purchased a gear vendors unit and I don't want to have to buy a new adapter. Ok guys, is there a builder or shop you recommend? What should I expect to pay? Thanks in advance.

Warren,
A TH350 won't have any issues with 600 HP if it's properly built.
I do them pretty often for that type of power. It's about an $850 trans with a deep aluminum pan, hardened sprag race, 5 clutch direct with Red Alto frictions, automatic VB setup for that power level, etc.

Chris at CKPerformance could build you one, he's in NY, I can do it, I'm in TX, Lonnie Diers at Extreme Automatics in Ohio although I don't think he does many TH350s anymore.
There's probably somebody in your area that specializzes in automatics for performance use but I don't know of any.

I rebuild my own, however if you find an old timer (no offense anyone) like I did before I started rebuilding my own, I never spent more than 500 bucks. He could rebuild them in about half an hour. Haven't broken one yet. I wouldn't pay more than 600 bucks. Anyone who tells you different is ripping you off. If you do it yourself it will cost you about 300-400 bucks for parts. 350's and 400's are really easy and cheap to rebuild. Try www.bulkpart.com (http://www.bulkpart.com) if you are interested in going that route.

Good luck. :beers:

theres a good book out on them, prob a little dated now, but had some good tips on updating them-i remember when i built one, spent the day at my buddies mach shop milling down pp's to accept extra clutches-it held up good
ATI Perf Prods is in Baltimore, not to bad a drive, they can build on-like Jakeshoe said, you add the good stuff
if you wanted, could you switch adapters on the g/v's and use a 400?
theres a lot of guys running 9's on 350's though-good luck

Thanks for the good advice. Whew! I was afraid that I was gonna have to dig deep to get a good trans. I had to drop $4500 last year for a trans for my cummins and I looked at a website for a builder in my area....$4000 without a brake! I was like..."here we go again" I'm glad to hear it can be done much cheaper and still end up with a good reliable product. Now to break the news to the wife...I didn't want to tell her until I knew what it would set me back to get it fixed.
