I had been using AVG but they discontinued the free updates...Is there a good one out there that is free?

If your updates were turned off, you likely have something else on your computer. Go to www.malwarebytes.org and download their antimalware, it is excellent. This is not the same as antivirus, keep that also.

avg used in conjuncyion with ad-aware se.

Check the Kim Komando site. There are some good ones listed there under FREE DAILY DOWNLOAD. There is always some good advice on her site.
