On page 86 of the Sep issue they show a homemade torque strap fastened to the upper control arm pivot shaft. Is this safe or stupid? Reason I ask is, thats about the only place I could put one on my '67 without extensive fabrication.

Greg, I was wondering the same thing. It looks easy enough to make, but does it put too much stress on that upper control arm bolt?

Greg Eacker,
I have my torque strap bolted to the driver's side of the frame.

I didn't get that issue (damn subscription problem), but my old 1965 Impala had a torque strap that attached to the upper control arm shaft... It was factory (I asked my grandparents, original owners)... So I guess it can take the torque...

the front suspension mounting points are pretty beefy- in fact, as already stated, that's where the factory put the straps on the all the cars that got recalled or fitted from the factory due to a few broken driver's side mounts from too much power and too many WOT blasts for the rubber mounts to take. one could also just use mounts that have an interlocking tab to prevent them from seperating.

IMHO and experience,a solid drivers side mount is all you need.A torque strap is ugly and industrial looking IMO..even the factory deal looks crappy to me.
