: Installing a new steering gear box?

just bought a new quick ratio steering gear box for my 1972. What is the best way to reinstall the pitman arm to the drag link to line up center? My thought is to move the wheels all the way to either right or left, then turn the gear box to the end of either way and bolt together, and that should some what line up center.

Do a search for "centering the steering wheel" in Chevelle Tech 2004.

Your pitman shaft has either one missing tooth (or four missing teeth equally spaced around the shaft). The pitman arm has one blocked tooth. With one missing tooth on the pitman shaft you cannot install it incorrectly.

Even if the pitman shaft has four missing teeth - if you install the arm 90 degrees or 180 degrees out - it will be very obvious.

Put the gear on center and the pitman arm should be pointing directly rearward toward the input shaft, in line with the centerline of the gear.
