Gentlemen, In a recent engine swap, I find that I cannot attach the ground strap at the firewall to the engine on any parts that are cast iron. Is it okay to attach to the aluminum?
Wondering if I should just get a longer strap. What are the consequences of not having this hooked up properly. Any consideration or assistance greatly appreciated. Cheers, R. B.

Do a search for ground straps, been discussed many times. Originally they went from valve cover bolt to firewall. They're meant to suppress ignition noise in the radio, that's it. They're not supposed to ground the engine, the negative cable from the battery to block or alt bracket does that. They're not meant to ground the chassis, the pigtail off the negative battery cable to passenger front fender does that. If those grounds are in place and a have a good solid connection you can throw the ground straps in the trash. If you didn't order a radio you didn't get them. I don't have them and there are a lot of cars running without them.
Thanks guys, that gives me all the information that I need. I usually do a search, but it never occured to me that this would be a major issue. Much appreciated. R.B.
