i have a complete rear disc brake setup that came out of a 87 camaro and i was wondering if i could swap on all of the parts (backingplate, callipers, and rotors) to make mine a disc rear.

Yes you can, but in addition, you are going to need a 4 wheel disk brake master cylinder and proportioning valve. If you can get these off the donor car, they should work for you.

Then you will need to figure out the ebrake cables...

Does the 12 bolt or 10 bolt matter? What other cars can I find the rear disc's on?

John,
I did this process on my 64 chevelle. Bought new lines. But used rears disc off an 86 or 87 not sure. Had to mill down the center of my axels for the rotors to fit over them and the only other bad prob was had to space the backing plate out about 3/8" to line the shoes up on the rotor.
I used a 68 corvette MC and have manual 4 wheel disc. Any other questions, Ill try and answer best I can.

John,

The F-body rear discs from late 80's up to mid 90s should fit... I believe they are similar design with PBR (finned aluminum) calipers...

One guy (Doug- LDS^SS) actually did the swap for under $100... Might be some minor adjustments, and of course the axle locating stub, but pretty easy...

I would lean towardt he 87-88 stuff (not sure of the years), because I tried 94 setup, and despite being very similar, there were e-brake differences... On my mock-up 12-bolt, I needed to switch the calipers and brackets side to side so the calipers were in front of the rearend. Otherwise the rearend shock brackets need to be notched for clearance. I have known others to do this knotching (AirRJ), but they were using 1968 and newer rearends... The early rearends need a much bigger knotch in the shock bracket (rearends narrower, but all brackets in the same place).. Of course, with the calipers on the front, the e-brake cable would work, BUT then potential clearance issues between the lower control arms and the cables... the caliper couldn't be flipped ups0de down (side to side) because of the bleeder screws.
This was with the 94 setup... I think LDS^SS used 87-88 brakes from a Firebird, and the ebrake setup was reversed. I think his pictures showed no interference.

As for the axles, easy for a machine shop to turn them down slightly (it only a few hundredths)... I bought new axles from Moser, and they turned them for free...

Of course, I also ran into wheel clearance issues. The stock GM ralley fit with minor clearancing (Used in the mock-up), But my Wheel Vintiques ralleys would even come close. So now I still have drum brakes in back (but a 4-wheel disc master cylinder  ...
