Sounds like you want to hook an elec pump up to the pick up on your OEM gas tank. This Correct. This won't work as elec pumps don't suck gas they push it and it needs to be gravity fed. It will be a matter of time before you burn up your pump.

What you need to do is get the pump lower than the tank and make a connection to the as low as you can get on your tank to get help from gravity to feed the pump.

I installed my edelbrock pump on the crossframe right in front of the tank. I'm sure its not lower that the tank and i probably should have put a filter in front of it, But did not. It's been working fine for about 4 years. I also made some rubber mounts for it but it's still quite noisy.

I used a Carter electric pump on my Ram Jet 350. I mounted above the tank on the vertical panel in the rear of the trunk. Let me clarify that, it's underneath the car on the panel at the rear of the trunk. Works great, no problems. Yes, definetly put a filter between the tank and the pump.
