Try rotating the crank maybe in 90 degree increments or so and see what the does. I wouldn't use the damper bolt to do this with the plugs in......You might want to remove them for safety's sake....Good Luck

If you have it at top dead center #1 just remember to spin it over 2 revolutions and you should be ready to drop. I have also seen some oil pump primer tools that don't seal well and create issues

what is in the drill to prime the oil? If you're just using a screw driver it won't work

just in case that is the problem, look at this distributor pic

that area right above the gear is actually an oil passage that sort of makes a bridge for the oil to get around the distributor to the other side of the block. If you use just a screw driver, oil will just fall down back into the pan at this point. You need to use an official tool or an old distributor.

If you already know this and this isnt the problem then im sorry, at least i'll bump your thread

no problem

if you have an old distributor you can just chuck up a drill where the rotor usually mounts...

and you have no idea how common this mistake is. I watched a guy rebuild a 62 vette on the DIY network, and when he primed the oil he used a screw driver. At least a couple thousand gear heads where watching that and made a mental note

If you use a old distributor you have to grind the teeth off.
