sorry if i'm missing something but I'm a little confused. I have been reading on this forum if you ordered a radio from the factory you got a set of ground straps installed. what I'm not getting is why a ground for the hood to body is part of this. isn't the hood grounded to the body thru the hinges and the hood latch? could someone clear this up for me please. thanks

I never seen this myself, all the cars i own are grounded on the back of the block to the firewall or to the chassis. Maybe someone else has heard of this.

This is what a 70 hood ground clip looks like

And a 69 hood clip only has one prong with teeth on it.

but thats my point. I would think the hood is already ground thru the hinges and latch. these things would scratch the paint on the hood so why would the factory add them? I'm puzzled.
I repaired the original radio to my 70 and it works pretty good when the motor is not running but I am having electrical noise with engine RPM. I'm chasing down the problem but I hate to add one of these to my new paint. I've narrowed the noise to either the MSD coil or the alt. or maybe both.
this forum has been great for finding clues but this ground clip has me puzzled.

The voltage regulator has a noise reducer condenser on it, maybe try there. it should ground to the radiator support.
Isn't there one mounted adjacent to the coil also?

I understand there was one on the stock coil, but i'm not shure if I can put one on the MSD BLASTER coil. If anyone knows could you please let me know.
I have one on my voltage reg. but the alt. is fairly new so I don't know if it has one internally. I will try to temp. unplug it to see if it helps.I think I heard there was also one on the fuse block, if so where and how is it pluged in?
thanks guys for the help.

The factory didn't care about paint scratches - the cars were "made" to be traded in for a new one in 3 - 5 years..... They were more concerned about gripes of engine noise through the radios.
I've seen them on yard junkers back to '65/'66...
