Hi Guys,
I have a 72 wagon, and I just fixed the front,
New bushings, new balltjoints etc.
The problem is, when i back up an apply the brake the car I sometimes hear a Kloink coming out of the front of the car, (it is not the transmission) and after that I hear that Kloink again the first or second time when i apply the brakes while driving its a metal type of sound
like hitting the frame with a hammer... Need Advice... Tommy

P.S. its just one time that I hear that sound
after braking two times it is gone till you back up again.

Are they disc brakes? If so, are both calipers mounted tight?

Did you replace the O-rings in the calipers?

I'd check the bolts on the ends of the upper a-arm shaft, the caliper bolts (as TDW said) and the caliper bracket bolts.

I think I would take a look at the left motor mount and the trans mount too, but I'm weird.

Double check to be SURE that your bottom ball joint studs are firmly seated in the steering kuckle. Recheck both sides, upper AND lower ball joint studs. Don't ask me how I found this out!

Do you have disc brakes? I had this problem with a Camaro once, and after checking everything that has already been mentioned here, I found out that the brake pads were just a tad to small for the calipers (worn calipers... cheap pads... who knows). I used the MIG to carefully weld a few small beads to the edges of the backer plates, while cooling them frequently. Then I filed them to fit snugly in the calipers, and the noise was gone.

How did you tighten the suspension? Was the weight of the vehicle on the parts when you tightned the nuts or was the front end supported on jacks and hanging there with no weight?

Here a link to a search on noises from front end after rebuild also.

Yes, I probably found the problem!
there's alot of play in the brake pads approx 3.mm I will replace them soon for better ones
I think this is the problem, all the other components were tight (checked with torgue)
P.S. i did tighten the suspension with a jack under the spring

Thanx Guys I let you know how things are working out. This sunday we're going to drive it
to Italy, about 700 miles. Hope it will be a European vacation without trouble...
